Instrumental Prog Rock/Metal Recommendations?

Focus III is the follow up to Moving Waves and another almost all instrumental by Focus.
Refugee was The Nice with Patrick Moraz on keyboards. Mostly instrumental with occasional vocalizing.
Touch was one of the first Prog bands having recorded in 1968 and they were American. The keyboardist Don Gallucci played on "Louie Louie" by The Kingsmen and was a staff producer for Elektra Records producing The Stooges Fun House plus the band Crabby Appleton. The album was better-known in Britain being released on the Deram label although members of Kansas heard it and cite it as an influence.

Al was my gateway to jazz. I was amazed at how similar his riffing was to Dave Mustaine's when I first discovered him. And he writes in suite form, which is closer to the La Villa Strangiato thang but rare in jazz, rock and metal.
They have a vocalist now, but Vrona were originally instrumental, as is their first EP:

Dan Briggs is a beast. Can't get into BTBAM but I really like his work with Nova Collective and Trioscapes.

Planet X and Derek Sherinian’s solo albums. His first, confusingly named Planet X, is my favorite of his.
The supergroup CAB can get fusion/proggy and has Bunny Brunel on bass.
I also echo the Dregs, DT, LTE, Vai, Al Di Meola, Camel, and Frost recommendations.
If you want some more modern prog with vocals check out Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson’s newer solo albums.
Also, an underrated proggish album worth checking out is “The End is Begun” by Three
And if you want to consider more groups with vocals check out some Neal Morse stuff

Be sure you check out Talkbass’s “Official Progressive Rock Bass Players Club” - lots of fellow prog rock and prog metal bassists there in a lot of great bands there: The OFFICIAL PROGRESSIVE ROCK BASS PLAYERS CLUB
Not metal, but Ozric Tentacles have plenty of hard rock guitar and drumming mixed into their brand of prog-jam psychedelia. I love all their stuff myself, but always recommend the album Jurassic Shift as a starting point.
Porcupine Tree has a few great instrumentals too.

Plini is another cracking prog metal/djent artist with a unbelievable bass player called Simon Grove. Such ease and style. Also does double duty for intervals on bass aswell.
The bass player Mark Michell left and started a new band Tetrafusion. Good Stuff

I was looking for porcupine tree this whole thread!
If not for joining a prog rock project, I wouldn't have been able to offer them up...
... 'Fear Of A Blank Planet' and 'Luminol'... not true instrumentals, but fun to play!
