International TalkBass Get Together

An International GTG would be very difficult, as the majority of TB'ers would have to make considerable arrangements in order to attend. The only solution would be to have it at a location that is equidistant to every attending TB'ers location. Therefore, I propose the location for an International Talkbass GTG to be...

...the center of the Earth.

Or NYC. That would be cool too. ;)

I just checked, it's +- 400 Euro to NY and back again. This doesn't include hotels and stuff like that.

I think an international GTG is possible, but it should be booked years in advance, in order to give everyone the time to gather sufficient funds. 400 Euro is not as much as 2000 Euro (who told me this crap anyway), but it's still a considerable amount of money (especially if you don't have a job, like me). Also, If I came to NY, I'd like to stay more than 2 days, something like a week seems like more fun.

Anyway, what do you think?

one of the reasons i think that New York would be a great place to host the GTG is because there's so much to do/visit ( concerts , museums etc. ) Bruno , as you know i'm also a poor student :D Let's say the whole trip will cost you about 600 Euro...

If you give me 3 years in advance I could gather 600 Euro's. Too bad we can't hike (ok ok lame joke).

Another thing we need are hosts. This could simply exclude the hotels (and I'm guessing 6 days of hotel ain't that cheap either).

Maybe we could get some sort of groupticket thing going, to cut down the expenses.

You know, if you guys really get serious about this and NYC is a choice for the majority, there are a LOT of bassists here in the NYC area that may be able to provide a place to stay for the event. I'm at the Jersey shore, about 1.5 hours to NYC driving time, and I'd be happy to make some room for someone (maybe a TBer + spouse or whatever), provided some notice is given so I can shovel out the clutter from our guest room ;)

It wouldn't hurt if the TBer guest that stayed at my house owned a Jerzy that they could kind of "forget" to take back home with them ....... :D

We could start by having many local GTG's. Start with just planning a picnic at a local park or booking a local venue for an evening a few times a year. I think by actually meeting and getting to know the TB'ers in your area, it makes it easier to pool your resources and .... maybe charter a bus/plane (depending on the # of people involved) to get to bigger GTG's.

Heck, I'll start it right now. I invite all bass players within a reasonable distance of Denver, CO to a Mile-High TB event. I'll organize it. <------ famous last words. If we can get enough of us interested, I can book a venue for this (I assume there are enough beer-drinkers amoung us to satisfy a bar-owner). We can even put together a backing band for us to jam with.

I think this is the first step toward a Global GTG.

Anyone interested, contact me: [email protected]

I'm voting the bottom of the Marianas Trench...and only inviting those with gills and those funny extentions from their foreheads that attract small prey. Either that or Samoa.

Thanks for the offer :) That would make it even better . ( and cheaper :D ) Don't forget , everyone is invited for the european GTG next year.We we have a nice guest room with a big , comfortable bed . If we have this in 2008 , there are many years left for ''local'' GTG.

oh and about the ''forget'' a bass part. in these pictures you can see the my Ibanez BTB between all those Ritters . I tried to ''forget'' my bass and take a Ritter but it didn't really work :D
