That had occurred to me, but I have an Android phone. While I wouldn't mind getting an iPhone AND an iPad, that would double my cost.

Ever since Friday night's gig, I've had a nasty headache and a hissing noise in my ears. Part of the drummer problem was the huge boost of volume during the last set of the gig. Huge boost.

Since then my hearing has been distorted, even my own speaking voice. I went to the doctor today and he did a quick hearing test before referring me to an audiologist. The test didn't go well. I have no hearing at all below 40db, across the spectrum. Severe loss in highs. The audiologist will confirm everything, but it looks like my days of loud amps are done for good if I want to continue to hear at all.

All night at the gig, he kept blasting his china cymbal, which was about two feet from my left ear. The stage was cramped and I couldn't really get away from it. He noticed and just hit it harder. I won't go into that, I already have, let's just say that that band is in my past.

So the doctor and I discussed options, as good as he could, not being a specialist. He came straight out and said that if I want to keep playing, it's time to convert to a silent stage or else.

So glad I've spent the time getting a sound I'm happy with in iOS, because now its my only shot to keep going. I'm still formulating a game plan but I'll at the very least be switching to a totally ampless rig for my next project. I've gotta take at least an 8 week break from playing live, so I've got some time to figure it all out.

So, my friends, the moral of the story is pretty simple. "If its too loud, you're too old" doesn't work. Laugh if you want, but it WILL come back to bite you. Protect your ears. You don't get a second set.

Paul, sorry to hear about this. The drummer is a douce for sure.
I might sound a bit harsh, but you can't only blame the drummer etc, you could move away from this band any time you've wanted to. Both me and Prieto warned you, me at least twice, at least!
You should have played with earplugs for first, secondly, if I were you I would have put additional hearing protection if the group keep on turning up the gain. It would look silly, but you would send a message to them and the audience.

I know you did it for money, but it is not worth it. Now, I'm happy that you left this band and will start your solo stuff. I will assist you with what ever I can on your first LP if you need my help. :)

So, I might have a chance to do some jamming using my massive iPad rig and
I was thinking that in order to have electrical harmony among the various devices
I'd grab one of these little gizmos to sort out the signal routing.

Radial Engineering PRO AV2

I can take the 3.5mm stereo out from my Guitar Jack 2, run that into the AV2 and then go to the PA from that.

I also can take a monitor feed for a stage amp/monitor from the AV2 as the discrete inputs are paralleled with the 3.5mm stereo in.

Anybody use one of these? Something similar?

Am I overcomplicating things?

These were discussed in one of the early parts of this thread. It was generally agreed that its a perfect DI box for your iOS rig.

I just received an AV1 today, based on the same discussion that Rip is referring to.

My intended signal chain is: bass > Apogee Jam > iPadMini+Jamup > 3.5mm stereo into AV1 > XLR out to a) recording interface or b) mixer to amp effects return plus headphone out.

So you are not alone.

Well, now I get to look into buying one of THOSE! LOL. Looks perfect for what I want to do with my iOS Rig of Doom.

Hey, quick question. I'm looking into trying to work out a bass synth setup and I recall someone (Duke, I think) mentioning a synth they used that was triggered by their guitar vs. triggering vs. keyboard/MIDI input. We use it on a couple of Nicki Minaj and Lady GaGa tunes, so a more modern sounding synth would be pretty cool to achieve.

In other news … Really rough cut on a song Jade Season is putting together (plus we're adding a guitar player so April can concentrate on vocals only, and we can finesse a lot more of the guitar/bass parts). Please forgive the mistakes, as I just wrote this bassline and really need to commit it to memory much better.

Signal chain was thus: Ibanez AEB5 acoustic-electric bass (strung with Rotosound Tapewounds - never thought I'd dig a Rotosound product) into JamUp XT, Audiobus'd to Amplitube's 4-track recorder, where it was mixed with the guitar/vocal scratch track.

JamUp
Noise filter (Set at 2 o'clock)
BDDI (Blend at 12:00 - Treble at 3:00 - Bass at 12:00 - Drive at 10:00 - Presence at 10:00)
Bass360 (Everything at noon, except variamp, which is at 200 with the effect at 3)
HPF (HPF at @40 - volume WFO)
LA Comp (Gain at 89 - Peak Reduction at 13)

Amplitube - Moller TRex (to add smooth gain)/Compressor/Big Pig to cream that out/Post production Master Reverb and overall compression added in.

Got it, Adam.

I'm in the process of rethinking my iOS rig. Up to now I've used it strictly as an effects processor/ DI, but the recent ear injury has forced me to completely ditch my amp. So I'm working on reconfiguring my presets to compensate for the missing stage amp. Since I've been running Jamup into the front end of my amp, all of my settings have changed.

Before I start gigging again, I'm definitely going to have to upgrade my DI box from the Behringer BDI21 that I'm using now. The BDI21 is a great little unit for what it is, but if I'm relying completely on my iOS rig, I want the entire chain to be as clear and noise-free as possible. The BDI21 has a tendency to get noisy if pushed too hard.

Funny thing happened... While at practice, our guitarist got a phone call while he was using his iPhone as his rig, so it turned into a rather loud speaker phone.

Those that use the iPhone... Can the ringer be turned off such that I don't have to wait 10-15 minutes for the messages to come through after taking it out of flight mode? Is there an interruption in bass signal output with an incoming call?

Assuming the iPad and iPhone have the came capabilities, my only concern is being able to check for texts and v-mail during short breaks while ensuring no interruption of bass sound if ring tones are muted.

Does this concern push me into the iPad only pool for signal processing?

Short answer, use airplane mode. I've had the same thing happen at rehearsal. Takes a second to take control of the audio back from the ringer. It's better to be safe and use airplane mode.

Also "Not disturbe" will work, you will see its ringing but will not hear it
