iOS Bass Players Thread #6 - World Domination

Not open for further replies.
Indeed, Adam wanted a Fender Bassman, he got it. I wanted the Orange and the Bass,
master, got it, Paul wanted the Acoustic. We have asked for a para EQ, HP filter, got it. We bass players have 2 GK's, 2 Bassman's, 2 Ampegs, the legendary Acoustic 360, the legendary SWR Redhead the legendary Hiwatt 103 which is great for a crunchy bass tone, the legendary Sansamp BDDI, the legendary Bassmaster, Big Muff bass, EBS octave, LA2 comp.
Crazy gear list. One thing is sure, PG could marked themselves as iOS bassist first.

That Acoustic 360 has a growl I've never been able to produce from any other amp I've tried.

Has anybody checked out this product from Behringer?

Yeah, I know it's Behringer but it looks like it has all of the inputs and outputs that anyone could need. There's a good explanation here:

Looks very interesting!

The folks on the Loopy forum have had good things to say about that and the 10-pedal programmable MIDI pedalboard they also make.

I wish companies would make their DAWs and interfaces compatible with both the iPhone and iPad... I will not have the cash for an iPad for another couple years (school) but have been using an iPhone for years. I can't believe there really isn't a large enough demand for iPhone products because phones are almost a necessity, while an iPad is usually a luxury item. I do understand that the larger screen makes doing things a lot easier but honestly I really don't have any issues using Multitrack on my iPhone.

Rip, I am also picking up a 5S in the next couple weeks courtesy of my gf/birthday and I'm hoping I can find a way to adapt my Alesis unit to it. If not, I will just keep using my 4 to do recording tasks, which are mostly over once I finish our album. I will only use it from there on out to do live recordings at shows.

How so?

If I launch Audiobus, then Cubasis, then Amplitube and JamUp they all seem to play fairly nicely
with each other, although the icon for Amplitube in the little Audiobus control popup is blank.

Tap the blank square where the Amplitube icon should be and see if it works for you then.

I'm having trouble getting Amplitude to save patches where I want them,
but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the upgrades as I just started using it.

The two Ampegs sound pretty good, and I love the Univibe...

When I try to launch a AmpKit+ instance along with the other two all I get is an amazing wash of white noise...
It works now cos they updated it. It didnt work in version 3, wrks in 3.0.1

I'm REALLY hoping that the included lightning-to-USB cable works with my Apogee Jam, otherwise my iOS rig is in storage till I can get the proper cabling.

Don't count on it! But the 30pin adaptor will work (it works for my ipad mini, I should say.) You can purchase a lightning cable that plugs directly into the JAM for $30, plus $15 shipping and handling. Yeah, you read that right.

Terrible news for me today.....without trying to read up on if there were compatibility problems.....I installed iOS 7 last night on my iPad. This morning I arrived for the run through before performance time.....
Jamup was totally silent and I couldn't get a signal in to the app. My interface was showing good signal strength as usual in its normal usual input setting and getting a strong green and no red unless I wailed on a string. I struggled with input setting in the menu and with anything I could think of in the app and with the iPad settings....... Nothing of sound or any indication of an incoming signal. Nothing in the meter either or anything with the tuner.....nothing.
I deleted the app in the thoughts that something could have happened when I was updating. Well after a quick reinstall of jamup (in which btw I lost all my presets...but I knew the consequences) I was frantically in high desperation mode.
Still no sound from jamup. I then quickly went to plan b and used amplitube which was good and worked great...but still no JU.
After lunch today I have gone back to trying to get anything from JU..... Still nothing yet.
This is a true nightmare.

Very strange Adam. Jamup works great for me in iOS 7

JAMUP input issues update:
Wooo hooo
Doing some more checking and poking around. I was able to get a signal through audiobus into JU.... That, at first confused the crap out of me. It not only worked with the USB connection to 30 pin but also with the devices onboard microphone.
I went into jamup looking for a microphone input and it was unavailable to even select it anywhere in the settings. But with my in ears connected to the headphone jack of the device I remember that jamup did an automatic onboard mic for the iDevice when nothing else was being given.
I plugged my headphones in and nothing....
This really put me into a horrid mood thinking I was gonna be without jamup until an update of either the app or the iOS.
Bummed out I started searching the settings on the iPad again...
I found something I had never seen before in previous incarnations of iOS. In the settings/privacy section there is a new section called microphone. Inside that there are apps that use inputs and the jamup one was turned off. All the rest were on.
Thank you apple for your new features LOL.
Good news: JamUP is back in the saddle. Giddy up
Bad news: I lost my 10 very long time tweaked presets.
But it's all good.
Rock on Bill! Rock on Ted!

Another reason to hold back on the iOS update is reports of people getting vertigo and motion sickness from the new animations in the user interface, and it can't be turned off. I know this would likely affect me, my balance seems quite tied into my vision, so I won't be updating at least until there's a setting to disable this. Nice one, Apple. :hmm:

3 tracks recorded simultaneously in Cubasis.

???

There are a number of sites that detail how to find the setting to turn off the animated background, along with other new features that have met with mixed reviews. Google is your friend.

Not really, you can turn off the parallax effect that makes icons float a bit over a moving background, but you can't turn off the new open and close zoom effect that seems to be what affects people the most. I get a headache from some application designs, and get dizzy from some computer games, so I think I would not like what Apple has done here.

Well based on our experience, Adam, this is all the more reason PG should add a preset backup to iCloud.. this would also let people sync their settings between multiple devices which is a fairly common request.

I always share my finished presets, so I can go back through the JU Share catalog and rescue myself if that should happen. Just a thought.

I have not shared presets before...
I'm this way only because presets can be....so.... Subjective. Depending on your bass and strings and output.
My presets usually weren't anything special.... They just sounded like me. And they fit well in the mix of the group.
It just took a while to dial them in.

I have gone to find presets that have a certain "famous name" or certain "song title" to get a guitar tone.
But for my own preset backup.... I may start doing that just to have a library of tones I have used in the past so I can go back if needed.
It will not be hard for me to go in and recreate the ones I use the most. But.... there were quite a few that I only used on one song that doesn't get on the setlist and played too much....those were nice to have on the fly.
Oh well.... Lesson learned. :)

there was talk before about how Jamup listens to us. (Not getting the big head for sure)
its just nice....

here's the example...i went back and found this. i cant quote because its locked but here's how it went down....
from the first ios bass player thread.....ah the good old days :)

Guys, let's officially talk about the bass pack 2.0 for JamUp, amps, pedals, effects, racks, etc.

What do you guys want?

I vote for:
Acoustic 360 head
VT Deluxe pedal
Nice recorder (or allow JamUp to output to a virtual port that MultiTrack DAW can recognize as input).

Rip Topaz

Jeez, this is difficult cuz I'm so happy with what's already in the app, but:

Acoustic amp model
Talkbox effect
Aguilar Agro
Aguilar DB700 (amp)
Sansamp RBI
Dedicated bass EQ, voiced for lower frequencies
Fretless simulator (not sure if this is possible without it totally sucking)
Hartke Bass Attack
Harmonizer or Octaver voiced for bass.

Duke21

Orange AD200
Sansamp RBI
Para EQ
Maestro BrassMaster
Acoustic 360
GK 700rb ii

adambomb

What do you guys want?
Surprise a fender silverface bassman or a 300 pro 8x10 sound please
Eden
Some of my others have been mentioned like an orange ad200
Acoustic 360

Pedals
I really don't use em hardly maybe a bass related EQ

BluesMan845

The maestro Brassmaster fuzz pedal

Boost circuit on the GK amp or a newer GK like the 700rbII.

I like the idea of a bass specific octave pedal like the EBS.

Some type of synth distortion effect. This might take some doing but I think you guys are up for the challenge the Red Ripper by Tech 21 or Source Audio multiwave distortion pedals

SolarMan

For Bass Pak 2.0 I would like to see:

1) JamUp Carbon Copy, complete with the modulation button

2) JamUp Multi Drive, with 3 parallel OD, Distortion, Fuzz and all the hi/lo pass filters, etc...

3) JamUp Opti-Fet complete with sidechain eQ specific for bass

that was the first initial reaction
