iOS Bass Players Thread #6 - World Domination

Little Blueboard update; works swimmingly with Amplitube. Pedals on and off or whole chains in and out depending on setting. Haven't quite got the knack in JamUp; can use an expression pedal to control the Whammy though :)

Sturdy and seems up to a bit of abuse too. Just need more time with it. Gonna try Ampkit a little later.

I have noise using SonicPort. It's not obnoxious and I can imagine some people not noticing it depending on their output equipment.

It's a static/sweeping/raspy sound and the volume tracks with the input level.. For instance, when I am not playing, it is silent, but when I pluck a note it increases and as the note trails off it reduces with the input volume.

I have tried different basses, different apps, different ipads, different cables, and different headphones.

I am not sure if this is just a limitation of the hardware in the ipad, or a limitation of the SonicPort, or I actually have a defective SonicPort.

So, what do you guys think? Should I be able to expect an entirely noiseless setup with iOS?

Not of the iPad. It gets and send digital sound and doesn't care for which device it is.

Noiseless? It's my opinion that anytime you throw effects at anything, there's bound to be noise. The chorus and phaser are big contributes to any noise I might have. I try to use a noise gate to keep quiet, but it doesn't work all the time. It's also a good reason to add effects during mixdown. But then, I have no idea what they do now. The last time I was in a 'real' studio was 15 years ago.

I'm not going to be much help, because I use my Sonic Port live and haven't tried recording. In the live setting, it's very good. Even when compared to the keyboard signals.

You can add stuff on Auria, it have pro level plugins

Thanks for the review.

I was curious regarding how flimsy it might be...

Glad to see it's solid.

Please keep us posted as you work more with it.

It's interesting that Jamup is a bit more difficult. Is it harder to control patches or individual boxes, or both?

I am glad that it's tuff tough.

Thank You. this is how I will be trying it.

4) What is the difference between the headphones and line output?
The headphones jack is located next to the guitar plug for easy access. The headphone volume is adjusted using the iPod volume up/down buttons.
The line output is located near the dock and uses fixed volume for connection to powered speakers, mixer, PA, recording equipment, or amplifier.
You can use either output, or both.

So ... Line out to guitar input I would guess. Looks like you'll need to get a 3.5mm (stereo?) to 1/4" cable for that. Not sure how the stereo affects that ...

I'll be getting excited when they announce the iPhone version. Very excited. Unfortunately, I don't have an iPad. I dropped all my money into the 5S, which is fully capable of running BIAS, when it's available. Till then, I'm pushing Jamup to it's limits.

DM1 update today. Lots more kits and full midi. Fun stuff.

Same here.. No excitement until iPhone version comes out.

I have been using Riffworks on my Mac so haven't been using iOS stuff lately. Two wishes -
1. I wish there was an app for iOS that made music collaboration across the Internet as simple as Riffworks

OR...
2. I wish PG could port BiAS over to Mac/PC

Until then.. I am spending more time on my laptop. Maybe I have to check out Ampkit for Mac again.

I do have the iPad4, but the goal is to use the iP for lyrics, drums, and other stuff. Then I'd use the 5th gen Touch for guitar effects... Since the gen5 Touch is an iP mini with a smaller screen, I'm sure it will run Bias, too.

Count me as one waiting for the iPhone/Touch version of Bias.

This means I need to pickup a couple of BlueBoards, too.
