For real. It's a great tuner.
I really ran Jamup through the paces last night. My guitarist and I started to dig through tones, trying to arrange presets for our set list. It was a lot of fun, and every tone I needed, Jamup was able to produce!!
We started out the evening with him laughing about how his new Line6 amp was so powerful, and "there's no way an iPhone can compete". (Hehehe. We all know where this one is going.)
Needless to say, Calvin and the gang made sure that I was able to fight fire with fire. Jamup was able to give me the EXACT tone needed for every song, and while he tweaked his presets and pages through menus to save his new tone (so many screens!!), Jamup's interface made it SO easy to dial in the tone I needed.
At the end of practice, his comment was,"That's a pretty crazy machine you've got there."
"Yeah. Yeah, it is." Lol.

I'm beginning to finally get what all the excitement is about with the ipad and a bass.
Just got a line 6 mobile in.
Had a tascam iXZ.
Why they even make interfaces that go into the earphone jack is beyond me.
The difference between the 2 is beyond night and day.

There's no contest. I still can't believe that at one time, I was using an irig (!!!) live!!
For the record, since getting my Apogee Jam, I haven't needed to use a single noise filter!!

Finally succumbing to the propaganda of the sound quality of the 'Digital In,' I picked up an Apogee Jam this last weekend. It sounds killer and is a nice difference--a definite step up-from the Peavey AmpKit Link that I 'had' been happy with.
Going back to the mic input via the headphone in, now, would be like trading a Bic lighter for flint and steel.
I didn't need the noise filter with the iRiffPort but now with the Alesis ioDock, the same bass is unbearably noisy...only bearable with the noise filter full on but definitely not usable for live situation or much less recording.
I think I'm going to shield the pickup and control cavities before giving up on the ioDock...I really like the interface and features overall.

Using iOS based amp sims does being out the minor issues with certain basses. I think this happens because when using our amps, we just don't hear it.
When we start using iOS based setups, we tend to listen a lot more closely to what's going on, and can really hear our bass for the first time.
At least that's what happened with me. My iOS rig has really opened my eyes and made me focus on getting a really good bass sound, instead of just being loud.

The big bonus of the iRiffPort and the Apogee Jam is that they don not need external power. External power can also introduce ground noise etc.
The power issue is valid for sure but I'm still digging the Dock's interface/features. I am just surprised with the differences that the various interfaces bring out.
I currently only have one bass guitar that I'm actively using- a Peavey Fury P style bass. I have a couple of other basses that are in various stages of upgrades/mods so they're not even playable at this point in time. The other bass I use just as much if not more these days is my Oscar Schmidt ABG.
Once the settings were dialed in, the iRig was quite usable with the Peavey as well as my FrankenJazz. The iRiffPort only heard the Peavey but it was night and day when compared with the iRig- much fuller, louder and not noisy at all. And, the iRiffPort was dead silent when compared to the ioDock, I didn't need the noise filter/gate at all with the same Peavey.
I plugged in the ABG and it was practically silent but the piezo pickup isn't suited for this application IMO, it's not usable at least not for me. However, it confirmed that it was a problem with the Peavey. Not to mention the old touch the strings and it quiets down bit. I think this bit rules out the noise from the power source issue too.
I guess it's copper foil time this weekend. Otherwise...move the Dock and succumb to the Jam side!

I like and use the TC Polytune app. I figure, I have my iPhone with me pretty much all the time, so now I also have a great tuner on hand!

The accuracy of tuning through the mic (presuming that you have a monitor/speaker of some kind involved) is pretty good.
I like and use the TC Polytune app. I figure, I have my iPhone with me pretty much all the time, so now I also have a great tuner on hand!
Me too, but I REALLY wish they would update it with 30-pin support.

Thanks man! Hoping Alesis supports compatibility with the IPad 4 soon so I can get some even nicer sounding recordings done.
So, if I have an iPad or iPhone and want to play along with some iTunes, all I need are my headphones, a bass, bass cable and an Apogee Jam, right?

Don't be scared to check out the free versions of: JamUp, Ampkit, and even Amplitube.
Definitely read through these threads when you have some time. There's quite a bit one can do.
Yes I didn't say rip was wrong about the sabs being at their heart a blues band I was just saying that they were not your typical blues band sound....in theory yes and in structure yes but I don't think of the sabs as being a blues band and would not tell someone to listen to black sabbath if you wanted to them to hear an example of blues.... When you say the term "blues".... Black sabbath does not come to mind... That's all I was saying.
just like so many rock bands out there from back in the day were blues influenced.... Like zeppelin... If you listen to the first zeppelin album, it's filled with blues type structure and feel.... But I wouldn't say to someone that's the blues...it's hard rock influenced by the blues. Same for the stones... blues structure and influenced in many ways. I wasn't arguing with rip....agreeing.... Just to clear that up.
Isn't it great that so many great bands were blues influenced and they totally rocked our faces off. Especially since they were all a bunch of white guys from England, influenced and trying to sound like black guys from America with their own take and version of "blues".

Also don't forget about the GK app a lot of people like that one. If you take your time and don't get frustrated. Get your levels right on the input side and you should be pleasantly surprised for the tones you can achieve. And ease of use for learning songs or just jamming with your iTunes library.
