iOS, iPhone, iPad and music 101

DAW.
After I've been working two nights I'm actually not sure which is easier, the DAW or the GB!
I really like both. The GB lack automation, the DAW have some more automation and lack of full automation is the only real weakness of the MT DAW.
One thing is sure, both the DAW and GB are great. The MT DAW is the best DAW out there for the money, while nothing beats the GB for its price!
It's does work with Audiobus. I've used Jamup, sunrizer, thumbjam, Nlog, Drumjam, Guitarism and Audiobus on my iPad1. Just remember to close all other apps, and accept that the iPad 1 will not be fast regarding workflow.
But, using stuff like GB/ Beatmaker AND Audiobus will make your iPad struggle.
soooo...... i don't use my pad as a bass amp, i still prefer a preamp pedal into a power amp, so it didna seem appropriate for that other 'pad thread. but here's what i run for my synthy keys setup. it's really neat having a few pedals on there to make the 'pad more gritty and wobbled -
and here's me noodling around with some beats and keys thingers -
i'm REALLY impressed with how solid the 'pad runs. i always make sure nothing is launched but the 2 or 3 apps i want to use to make noises and turn it to airplane mode. but it's surprised me tons.

reading through the first 15 or so pages, it looks like most of y'all aim more for amp replacement instead of suplementing? interesting. i'm in love with my amp/pedalboard setup. i'm trying to have a very versatile small synth/sampler/keys setup, and so far the 'pad has been a surprisingly awesome solution.

Try SampleWiz and Thumbjam by no other then Jordan Rudess! SampleWiz is just a wicked tool!
Regarding the bass amp/ stomp box replacements, well most of us are "old" dudes packed with physical issues....
Nah, just kidding, but many of us play right into the PA/ FOH so we see no reason to drag amps and such with us. I used to use my Sansamps and my pedals board before, but after I discovered that Amplitube/ Jamup/ Ampkit gives me my tone I've about stopped using my hardware preamps/ pedals. With every new iDevice packed with more power and every software update bringing us closer to the real thing I just does not see the need for dragging my hardware pedals with me. I do dig the synth/pads apps as well.

dig it. i use a somewhat largish pedalbaord with odd routing, and there's a few effects that are just better with dedicated boxes, but i'm with you. i've done desktop and laptop soft synth stuff for awhile now. it is IMPRESSIVE how much a good tablet can pull off nowadays.

I'm working on setting up my real pedalboard to work with my iOS rig.
I've been really happy with my iOS rig up to this point, but all this talk lately about envelope filters has me itching to get some funk going, and what better way to do that than to break out the modded Bassballs and crank it up!!
My pedalboard isn't huge by any means. It consists of an A/B box so I don't have to unplug to switch basses (I'm all passive), a Marshall JH-1 OD/Distortion (sounds great with bass due to the semi-parametric EQ section), a Fishman AFX Chorus (multi-fx), and my BDI21.
I just figured that now that I have my iOS rig all dialed in, it's time to expand a bit. I can't use my pedals if they're not plugged in!!

Any tips on an iPad app that will help with transcribing? Ideally is like to be able to hear by bass while I try to figure out basslines in songs.
The jam option in Jamup includes velocity change, so you can slow down the song without changing the pitch.
Lets hear the JH-1 with mild OD! So Rip, put the JH-1 in front of the SVT BL, I just want to hear how it sounds with your SX Jazz and mild OD on the JH-1! Play first with a pick softly and then rather hard with your fingers, thus, bang the strings against the fretboard like Geddy
Probably a silly question, but why put iPad in airplane mode when using GB, or DAW or other music apps?
i put mine in Airplane Mode as an easy on off for all communication stuff. AniMoog HAS glitched out on me before when the data options are up, and if i'm playing a show i just want all the resources available for music apps.
for me it's always easier to just shut everything down with one option then remember to do multiples. no reason NOT to use Airplane Mode for that right?

Just remember that even if you are in Airplane Mode, all of your alarms will still go off.

How are you using this are you doing live performance, writing with friends, dj'ing, ....just for fun?

Having the outboard midi keys is a great tool.
I always put mone on airplane to make sure I'm not receiving any texts sounds or FaceTime requests or incoming mail sounds or the like during a performance...that can be a bit embarrassing.....also you I don't want any of that on your recordings or I just don't like to be bothered while I'm right in the middle of creation time. I don't get much sit down and create time so that time is precious to me.
AT does too it also has a "no voice" button that can take "EQ" out some of the frequencies to make some things stand out better.
