Iron Ether Appreciation Society

All this talk about the Divaricator is piquing my interest.. It got me thinking there's still quite a few IE pedals I haven't tried yet even though I own 8. The QF2, Cygnet, Divaricator, regular Xerograph, Dubterranea and Nimbus SE elude me still. Also haven't tried the newer versions of the Nimbus, Polytope, Xerograph Deluxe and FrantaBit but having the older versions is just fine. My custom painted Xero D is basically my favorite pedal ever.. The Cygnet mention brings back memories of when I discovered Iron Ether on Talkbass circa 2010, I haven't seen one in years and wonder how many were ever made! Taylor had said something about making a new Cygnet/tremolo way back but I wonder if that idea was just put aside or if it morphed into the Arcing Prisms at some point in the development.?

I'm sure Taylor will crank out more of his classics as soon as he can get his hands on all the parts he needs. I'm also very curious about possible new pedals he might come up with.

I'm in Norway. I bought all my IE pedals new from Taylor over a period of 3 years or maybe more. Six all together. Sold one locally because I didn't bond with it, but love the ones I have. Polytope, Xerograph dlx, Oxide, Nimbus SE and Dubterranea. Actually my board is all IE at the moment, except for a tuner, PS and looper. I have been through a lot of other stuff over the years..... IE pedals just thrill me more, and I have built my board patiently, buying when they become available. And selling off other stuff. If I hadn't been on TB I guess I never would have known about IE, and never would have ordered my first one.... that's life.... and I love it!

It's hard to explain gear pricing these days. You see stuff sell for more on reverb than MSRP when builders have new stock on their sites.

I think if people keep buying pedals at high prices things will only go up and up...and then when Taylor makes more they will be gobbled up to be flipped. The thing that keeps Broughton reasonable-ish...is that he keeps cranking them out. If you don't want to pay the premium patience ALWAYS pays off w Broughton.

The iron ether and 3leaf audio flipping has reached ludicrous proportions and it seems that things are actually selling at these dumb prices so it will only come down if Taylor does a drop of like 200 pedals at once.

Hmm… i’ve got a few tattoos, and normally I would never tattoo a brand on myself… But I might make an exception for an IE.

Man, I've been playing with mine for about an hour and I'm sold! I wasn't really sure what I was getting into with this particular model but wow, dialed it it's really cool. Definitely couldn't work without the blend, and if you have a RFE OMG it cleans up the back end, raise the low res on the RFE and its some kind of heaven. Working well with fuzzes too.

I hadn't realized people were doing it with the 3Leaf stuff. I have a v1 Proton that is in my sell pile but I've been too lazy to bother. It's a v1 though so I don't think it's big bucks, though hard to pin down since there don't seem to be very many that have come up or sold in recent times.

This post inspired me to take a family photo today. The lineup is the order I got them in originally but the Oxide and FrantaBit are not the original ones I bought from Taylor. So although I got 4 directly from Taylor, I'm the original owner of only the Nimbus and Xero. I kinda wish I kept my first Franta because of the custom paint job (and lower serial # haha) but I'm glad I was able to buy another real quick after selling mine when I realized the mistake I had made, thanks to an awesome TB'er.

Look a the boards... there are four in the middle with the same architecture and same with the two on the right...

Use a passive expression pedal, not CV. I recommend the Moog EP-3 but anything wired the same way will work - Mission Engineering ones, for example. You do need to use a stereo TRS cable.

The tip goes to the expression pedal's wiper, sleeve is ground, ring to the remaining contact.

You're right, this info is on the website's FAQ but it ought to be on each pedal's page and with more explanation. I'll work on that. The tricky thing is that the more verbose you get with instructions, the more people tune out and get confused, so it's a balancing act. "Get this specific expression pedal" tends to work for most people who aren't as technical.
