BROTHER: "And Saint Atila raised the bass guitar up on high, saying, 'Oh, Lord, bless this thy bass guitar that with it thou mayest play thy bass notes to perfection, in thy mercy.' And the Lord did grin, and bassists did feast upon the Alembics, and Rickenbackers, and Laklands, and Rob Allens, and Fenders, and Gibsons, and Spectors, and Ritters, and --"

MAYNARD: Skip a bit, Brother.

BROTHER: "And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou tune thy Holy bass. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out! Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy bass notes towards thou audience, who being Holy in my sight, shall love it.'"

MAYNARD: Amen.

I remember when I first saw this. Terrified. Worse than the flying Oz monkeys.

I just watched that episode 2, 3 days ago! Saw it as a kid and was suitably impressed. I missed a lot of nuances in the plot back then, like the fact that the guy who was communicating with the galaxy guy was a disc jockey or something like that. And his wife is mad at him for not wanting to go to a party, and he's making lame excuses. Why didn't he just tell her he was talking with galaxy guy and to shut the fark up? The most significant discovery in history and he entrusts the super critical power knob to some other disc jockey while he goes to the party. It's like when a character in a movie warns the dizzy blonde not to go in the cellar, and she says "OK then, I'll just nip off to the cellar for a bit, be right back" And of course she ends up strangled by her own intestines, as all cellar-goers inevitable are.

I think Groucho would have told the writer; "You've got the mind of an 11 year old, and he was glad to be rid of it."

Great special effects for the time, I totally bought it as a child.

I agree with the three previous posters who implied that it might be the fabled bass of Turin; I think that was when Jesus tried to get on the stage at Woodstock to preach "Power to the people, man", and Pete Townsend smashed Him in the face with an instrument he'd been saving for just such an occasion. Jesus forgave him, of course, and rendered him deaf, dumb. and blind as a lesson.

Not to point out the obvious, but anybody can see Jesus anywhere. Just saying.

p.s. Except for the facey-looking part, that's a real pretty bass.

p.p.s. If that face looks like anybody, I think it looks like Rasputin.
