Is there a "look" for a bassist?

I've a small beard patch (no moustache) and just recently I started wearing fedoras (trilbys, to be specific) and long-sleeve shirts (with a t-shirt under, and a discrete chain around the neck) regularly and in band practice.

A couple weeks ago, a friend of the singer was visiting the jam space for a few minutes. When our singer introduced us (me and the drummer), he said "guess who's who". The friend said, "yeah, it's obvious who's who". Half-jokingly, I think.

So, I guess that, in that guy's opinion, my "look" is a "bassist's look"? :hmm:

"Is there a "look" for a bassist?"
Yes. There are only 3 bass player looks/types to choose from;
1. Dark and menacing
2. Dorky and happy-go-lucky

...or
3. Nondescript and unnoticed, which is what most of us are...

2 & 1, depending on which you shoot for. Be careful aiming for too much menace or you'll overshoot into dorky. You cut that one very fine.

hmm, might have to amp up the dorkiness then, I don't want to be all sinister or look like I take myself too seriously. . .

I guess the look I'm trying for with this group (rockish/jumpish blues fwiw) would be "classy with an edge of rock." Which doesn't seem to be an option. Quite a departure from my other groups, where I generally fall into #2 trying to be as colorful as possible.

Still working on this one.

There are several 'types' of bass player look. I'm a reasonable example of one of them. I'm moderately large at six feet and three hundred pounds with a beard and huge paws.

This was from the Bassists With Beards Club. I'm amused at how small I look playing a bass banjo. It's on a huge endpin.
