Is Wearing Sunglasses On Stage Douchey?

Well, it's possible to look badass and douchey at the same time .

Behold the common Doucheass, in his element on a plateau overlooking a local watering hole. Take care not to make direct eye contact. That is commonly seen as a challenge to their territory.

In one particular theater venue I play at, there's an incompetent lights/sound man who has a tendency to aim retina-searing spots right into our eyes. I can still see because I put on sunglasses when he starts that nonsense.

(Same guy can't figure out why the full permanently installed mega-$$$ PA system ends up sounding WORSE than when we just use a Fender Passport with two Shure SM57s. Hint: it ain't the fault of the equipment...)

I'm 60, at my age sunglasses hide a lot. You know what's not cool? Looking old.

Really? Ever seen Sonny Rolllins? Muddy Waters at 70 had more coolness than Mick Jagger at 24.

Outdoor gig? Go for it. Indoors, not so much. Did it once, saw the pics, tossed the glasses out.

Kinda feel the same way about most hats as well...

I get nervous when I play in front of people, so I usually wear sunglasses, a hat pulled over my eyes, or sometimes a gas mask. For stuff like church gigs, I just cover my face with a music stand. I feel strangely calm when people can't see my eyes or face.

like any fashion choice, some people can pull it off and some can’t. if you’re a bamf, you can do anything you want on stage. posers justify trying hard because they wanna look like a bamf.

i say just be yourself onstage. try hards always look silly.

Dusty can do ANYTHING and still be cool. If you set him as the cool high mark, we are all a bunch of douches.

My view of sunglasses on stage is if you can pull it off, then its cool. If you cannot, it's a dumb as heck. I leave the sunglasses in the overhead inside the truck.

I wore sunglasses to my gig the other day mainly as a joke since I was subbing for a band and wanted to look as douchey as humanly possible. But I actually looked very badass. So are they actually douchey or is it just a few douchebags that use them?

We need more info: did you wear something else (such as clothes)?
