best of both worlds brother! JOIN US!!

I must know what kind of bass that is! And where I can get one!

I already have two P's, but still, that's just awesome!

Ultimatly...I went with Jazz, but I love both now almost equally. The perfect players' bass {for me} would be a 1960 Precision Bass {Jamerson} with a Jazz Pickup added and 5-string fretless or fretted...oh man..if anyone ever sees one, let me know!:bassist::o

For all you P/J guys: Does anyone currently make a passive P/J with a Jazz neck? Or, did Fender make any nice passive P/J's in the past.

I think my ultimate bass would be a Black '08/09 P with and '08/09 maple Jazz neck.

Right now I'm lovin' on Jazz basses. I just moved into Cornerstone University, and I brought my Squier Affinity Jazz V, left the Squier Affinity Precision at home. Part of it is the 5-string deal, but that's another thread. Both are AWESOME instruments, but at the moment I'm really a big fan of the whole Jazz Bass scene. Rock on!

IMO, A P/J hybrid isn't the best of both worlds... You don't quite get either a Jazz or P tone, it's something in the middle, even with the pickups solo'd. I've owned a hybrid, and it just didn't do it for me. I prefer a Jazz though, because you can get the full on growl with it that I love, and with the right tweaking, you can pull off a cheap imitation of a P-bass with the neck Jazz pickup, eq'd right. Both are awesome though...

Also, I prefer flats on a P-Bass and roundwonds on a Jazz.

I voted for the Precision because I like it better these days, but I think if I could only own one bass, it would be a Jazz or a PJ, most likely a PJ. Had a Jazz and loved it, but they're too heavy for me now.

You can get close enough for rock and roll with either one, but I go the opposite of you for the same reason...I can deal with the PJ not sounding quite like a Jazz, but not vice versa. Got back on the single P pickup bandwagon a couple years ago and now I do most songs with that sound.
