Jule Amps Monique part 5

K
Hey all. Looking to try a jule dove cage or bamboo?. Anyone have any leads on a good used one? Thinking of running with my thunderfunk 750/800 and for the studio. Thinking of this as a tube alternate to a mesa walkabout. Thx.
Keep your eyes on the classifieds. They don't pop up real often, but they do occasionally. You might also try posting in the Gear Wanted thread as well.

I'm trying to figure out whether an all-in-one 700w Rack Monique would be better for my needs than a Monique pre and a separate power amp, and I Just. Can't. Decide.

Currently running an Eden WT-800c into three 8-ohm Aguilar GS112 cabs, and am concerned that the 700w Monique will only allow me to use two cabs. (I hope next year to upgrade cabs to Baer ML-112s.) The pros of the all-in-one, for me, would be simplicity, light weight, and tone. Negatives are a possible lack of power and inability to run three 8-ohm cabs.

It sounds as if Crest and Demeter, according to my research, produce the best (powerful, lightweight, transparent) options if I were to go with the preamp-only Monique.

If it matters, my current main axe is a Lakland 55-94, and my main band is a loud 8-piece rock band with a horn section. I prefer three cabs to two because I prefer to have the top one elevated closer to my ears, and I like having reserve for deep low end if the room supports it.

Really banging my head against the wall on this one.

The hypex module in the Monique 700 can do 2 ohms. I know Jule suggests minimum 4 ohm, but the hypex is designed to handle 2 ohms. I use my Monique 700 @ 2.6 ohms all the time (one 8ohm and one 4 ohm cab) and I never had a problem doing so.

That is a game-changer. Thank you.

I thought that I had read almost all of this thread, and hadn't remembered seeing that anywhere.

I don't have experience with the Hypex, but what I've read supports 2.7 Ohm operation, at least. I believe that Jule acknowledges this but has said that he doesn't want to recommend it officially until it's been proven to be robust over the long term run hard thusly. He has said that, pushing it at sub-4 Ohm loads, you'll want to be more mindful of heat. Jule can speak for himself here, though.

Demeter makes more than one poweramp (I believe that he can build two Minnies into a 1U chassis), but the Minnie commonly referred to here is 4 Ohms minimum. The Crest Prolites seem to match well with Monique. I've run mine through a Prolite 2.0 and an older Lab Gruppen fp2200 without issue. The Prolite is a bit more open up top, the Lab a little smoother and more solid feeling with Mo, but either will do the job well. The Crest will bridge with the flip of a switch - no special cable required - which is nice.

Played a benefit last night for a young lass just out of a coma. She said, "Yes" to her nurse. The benefit was planned but the location came through last minute. Not an auditorium but yes the place known for the best acoustics in the world. Wait for it......a high school cafeteria.

Monique was perfect. You know some folks have said other pres have more tone shaping. At a glance at the front panel one might think that. Well let me tell you. There is great tone in minute increments of every move of the tone controls. That's the thing, it's musical eq. Good tone sounds good. Cuts, fills and stays out of the way so your touch is what tames the room.

Thank you, Jule.

First gig with my new Monique. Paired with Crest Audio Prolite 2.0 DSP (bridged) and Greenboy Fearless 115 + my two Dingwall basses. Sonic perfection!

Hey all, you may remember that a while back I was voicing frustration at losing a number of vintage tubes...that while I liked their tone, I didn't like the fact that they weren't "dependable in the field". I'd lost at least one on stage and then in the studio too (heck, one in the practice room too!). All tubes from well known dealers...So I threw in the towel on those 'holy grail' tubes...

...Upon looking around for 'original OEM' tubes, there was no decent vendor for Shuguang tubes that would actually test or cull them for quality. I know that Jule also likes the Shuguangs because the metal bases act as shielding for lower noise.

Anyway, after voicing my frustration at finding dependable tubes that were tested and that I felt I could trust, Jule stepped in, because he's a super kicka55 guy. I now have a full retube kit on hand...an EZ81 rectifier, 12AU7 (drives output), and two Shuguang 6SL7's.

If you're like me and want a set of backups on hand, and you're looking for a 'no fuss' solution with some peace of mind, knowing that the tubes have been tested effectively and specifically for Monique use, contact Jule to purchase a Monique tube kit. As always, awesome service from Mr. Potter.

Indeed he is. I bought a used Dove Cage, had a hum. Contacted Jule, sent him the unit and he fixed it for no charge (was a grounding issue). Great guy to work with who stands behind his product.

Yep. My rack-Monique came to me with some issues, most likely due to shipping turbulence. Jule spent the better part of a week trouble shooting with me (including during the weekend) by phone. Then he asked me to ship it back (on his dime), worked on it and returned it within about a week. I know it's hard to keep up that level of service while also building amps and running a business...but Jule and Marsha are wonderful people and do it.

I need your help :
Please, can you tell me what are three frequencies of Monique's equalizer ? I know that we have already spoken about it on this thread, but I don't to find the answer to this question. I am sorry about it.
I thank you in advance.

I can help about the low. IIRC it centers at right around 53hz.
