Jule Amps Monique part 5

Anyone on Long Island have an M700 I can try? The pic I posted early running Monique through my V4b is just unbelievable. I'll happily replace the V4b with an M700 but I want to make sure it's better. It's so good I am willing to carry around the 40lbs if I have too. This far the v4b has been my home studio amp and drag it out for special occasions. But man I can't keep this tone to myself.

Went on a little tangent, would love to A/B before buying I'd someone is willing.

Peter,
Well if you lived closer to St.Louis, you could stop by and check mine out. The M700 combined with my
Grace Designs Felix, is astounding. I can't imagine that the V4B would sound as good, but I haven't played a V4 since I was a kid. What I do know is the Grace/M700 combo sound is comparable to either of my Walter Woods Amps.

Ric

P.S. Julie is apparently working on new prototypes to upscale the M700 to a M2,500 or a M1,400.

Can someone recommend the right length and cable to run from a dovecage to a 1/4 on the front of an amp? Same set as going to an m700 but I'm using an acoustic image Clarus.
Shorter is good, and a decent quality cable. Not terribly picky really.

The whole balanced/unbalanced issue is made moot in these cases if we can keep that cable comfortably short.

I really like Monique with the Phil Jones PB-300 powered cab.

Wow! Original logo even.

Can't wait to hear the 2500 watt version!
Come by the shop. She lives.

Now we wait until the new aluminum base plate/heatsink gets out of the metal shop. And new graphics. Shooting for thirty days, but experience has shown me that the initial "bits" never get done early. One of the "bits" is getting live performance hours on this thing. Until these steps are completed, we will not know the final cost.

I'm still trying to figure out how I would use that much power!! I never get even close to maxing out my 700!! And I've been playing through an 8 ohm 115, an 8 ohm 112 and now a 4 ohm stack of BA12-3 's.

That new amp would sounds like it could slay animals and humans alike if pumped through a couple of 810's!! Maybe only 1 810!

Well this certainly sounds glorious run through the power amp in. Still have to find a set up that works when I don't need to knock a wall down.

The "Power Amp Input" issue is a bit more interesting than it might seem.

The difference we experience in various amps mating properly with any pre-amp or EQ or whatever we want to stick into that "Amp Input" jack comes from the design of both the sending unit and the Amplifier.

There are no adhered-to standards. When builders want to play nice, we shoot for a 10K input impedance both ways, with as much "level" as the amp needs. Both (Monique in this case) and the amplifier will play very well together when this impedance is properly matched. Monique Line Output wants to look into 10K.

The Amp Input in some gear is an after thought and we don't know what the best matching impedance is. Amps like the Aguilar DB751 (Great Amp by itself) sound pure gorgeous when we send Monique to it via the Effects Input, but the 751 has an Effects Level adjustment too. By no means an after thought.

The posts that suggest simply giving it a try, are probably more accurate than they may seem.

Later today I am heading for the London Bass Guitar Show, or I would fire it up and see if you all can hear it. :hyper:

This 2500 idea came (like every other fun idea) from customers. We have players rocking 5000 plus audiences, and they need love too.

I have no doubt there are players out there who will put it to use! Power is intoxicating! And if I were one who thought I could use it, I would buy yours because I KNOW it's incredibly well made!

When I was using Monique with the Crest ProLite, I used a 3' TRS cable. It was longer than I needed when stacking, but the extra length was perfect when placing the Crest on the floor.
I found some well-built ones at Sweetwater. Didn't have time to build them.

I made a couple of short George L's cables. I don't find them (or rather the twist-lock connections) particularly durable as instrument-cables-to-be-stepped-on onstage (or maybe the fault lies with how I wired them) but they seem to me to be closer to transparent than most instrument cables and I've had good luck using them for connecting preamps to amps, and connecting pedals in a pedalboard.

Nice. I'm glad you're enjoying it. Any other thoughts?

Last nights gig was obviously a P&W gig and I used IEMs, sometimes I opt for a monitor instead of the IEMs but never use an amp. Got a good sound with the sensitivity around 1 o'clock and the EQ flat at sound check. I never really had to give it any further thought, for me that is the ultimate goal. I wish I bought a Smith 20 years ago it really is a wonderful instrument, this gig requires me to use the 6 string as I often need to cover guitar riffs/solos, keyboard intros, play chords etc. depending on the other talent around me. It has been a big learning experience to be prepared to cover everything in the music. Monique really provides a great smooth and full upper register tone which is really something I didn't really feel needed improvement from using the Reddi, now that Mo is here I realize just how greatly improved that upper register is.

As far as using Mo as part of my backline it sounds great into the power 'amp in' on my reissue V4b and a pair of sealed 210AVs, it's a significant improvement to the front end of the V4b. The AI Clarus has come up short as a power option, even with my EANL210 and NM410. I have decided to get rid of most of my extra gear, Reddi & both EA cabs sold, AI seems to be sold but not finalized. While the V4b is a bit on the large side I'm only concerned with replacing it with better, smaller/lighter would be nice but better is really the test. I need some more rehearsals and gigs to iron out my thoughts on this.

I have a pretty nice practice space I set up at home, I can practice through studio monitors or headphones. I can also play through my amp along with recorded tracks or a metronome. I've had a lot to prepare for over the past few weeks and I'm super comfortable with using Monique. And since it integrates as my DI or as part of the backline I can carry some consistency with me which is great. Like I posted last week I could even grab my tone from a old junky and beat up hartke rig in a run down rehearsal studio...

Some of those old Hartkes actually don't sound bad. I had one of the original MOSFET 3500's that was a beast and sounded pretty decent. Even going back to it on occasion, I and others in my band have remarked on how surprisingly decent it sounds.

I've got about 3 rehearsals and one gig on my 'new' Monique and I need to spend some time playing with the Sensitivity control. Jule mentioned in the note he sent with it that the taper on the pot is different than my old one, so I have to feel out what the differences are. I was sort of used to knowing the neighborhoods I most used...sort of 9-10 o'clock for something clean and wide, noon for 'average' and pushed up to 2 o'clock for getting a bit more tube/vintage squish out of it. I'd use that for the more heavyweight roots riddims and pull it back for more soul or ballad type stuff.

Peter,
I'm in Rockville Centre. Let me know if you're still interested in trying the M700.

Cheers,
Eddie
