Jule Amps Monique part 5

Well this certainly sounds glorious run through the power amp in. Still have to find a set up that works when I don't need to knock a wall down.

I really like Monique with the Phil Jones PB-300 powered cab.

The Ampeg wasn't 'tubey' enough for you?

He wished to refine his "tubeyness.":smug:

Haha....The plan is (was) to replace the V4b and Reddi with Monique. Ironically the V4b sounds even better with Mo and compared to the AI head and Crown XTI the V4b power section is the best of what I have laying around. That being said don't dismiss that chinese made tube head and $300 cabinets.

No dis brother, although Ampeg has never been my thing.

But I couldn't be happier with my 700 Tardis. Dark and tubey, yet with amazing definition and attack. Hence my "refined" characterization. It is what I do like about Ampeg, without what I don't like.

Wow! Lots of flavors. How do you decide what to use?

Rack my brain and worry about it way more than I should ;)
I have more amps too, and I fully admit that it's kind of ridiculous.

Right now I'm usually stuck between the Monique/Crest ProLite 3.0, a Mesa M9, or the SVT II. The Monique gets the most play. The M9 is new to me (got it in trade) and I've been playing it just to see what it's like and it's really cool so far, and the SVT is an SVT but I'd really like to bring it in for a checkup before I put it back into rotation.

I have a ton of basses too so I usually rack my brain about those rather than the amp. And I want to buy more. A Dingwall, a Lakland, a 35" scale PJ5, and I'm sure a few others that I can't think of off the top my head.

Its probably important at this point to mention that this isn't up-rated like many current amps (aka burst rate, peak rate), but done in the traditional old school sense. For instance I use a Peavey IPR2-3000 which suggests that it's 3000w burst tested at 2ohms. In reality, its probably closer to a 1400w RMS rating.

This Jule unit is a real 2500w RMS. Probably the first of its kind destined for production.

I've got a V4B, SVT II, Mesa 400+, Mesa Prodigy, REDDI, Khan DI, Meatsmoke Pre, and a Monique. Just different flavors of tubey...

My problem is I will endlessly A/B things if I have them in the same room and get very little real practice time in. I've pretty much decided I like Monique as a DI over my Reddi and if it works on the gig my beloved Reddi will go on the chopping block. Not because I need $ but I have to make a decision and move on. I am not sure why my brain works this way, I'm perfectly happy with 30 different fishing rods for every occasion.

May need to keep my peepers peeled.

The Monique as a DI is great. No extra outboard unit to carry, and while it's 'post EQ' I've never ever ever had a single soundman say ANYTHING negative about it even though I use EQ liberally. I can't quite figure out the magic dust in the Monique EQ, because it never sounds bad even if you push it around quite a bit.

I mean, even in the studio I was liberal with my EQ settings and it sounds great on 'tape' and got no push back from the engineer/producer.

Oh yeah! When a soundman says, "play a little bit," then smiles while still looking down something is going right. That's Monique.
