Yikes! Sorry to have missed this thread. Pre-NAMM-cold and malaise is my effort at an excuse for my neglect.
The M700 is "bigger" on paper and audibly. I do understand that bigger is not always what is required. I also understand that not every player needs full spectrum definition and power. Some do.
One reason for the price difference is quite mundane, but sadly important - the price from Hypex is less for the 500 that it is for the 700.
Back to the "bigger" issue. . .The M700 is powerful across the entire audio spectrum. The usual "holes" where the power dips or jumps up indiscriminately are at a minimum. The power available is more than what is rated - not less. I have not experienced either of these features in other products. This becomes accurate note definition. It becomes eliminating the necessity to dig in for some notes to make up for what the amp can't do.
To add more to the confusion, the 500 watt amp in the Simone 500 is another new Hypex product. It should be considered. The pricing for the Simone 500 is up on the Juleamps Shop.
The focus of the Simone 500 is to deliver great sound and to be physically robust enough to drive your car over (I do not know how often this happens in the Bass Community, but we are ready for it, and I like saying it.). The Simone 500 will live comfortably on the floor or in a backpack or in the hands of a disgruntled vengeful baggage handler. The M700 and M500 not so much.
