Jule Amps Monique part 5

Sorry for the sidetrack, but I want to make sure I'm reading this right: Ken, you're down to one bass, and a P-bass (albeit a modern fiver) at that?

Given the passive design and the nice extended treble of the P5, the sensitivity control really had a nice, meaningful impact... going from 'warm and clean' to a nice, natural, bright 'crunch' up top.

After 41 years of gigging without a break, I decided to retire from live performance as of January 1st (at least the 'on the road pop gigs' I've been doing for so long). So, over the last 6 months, I've sold everything but my favorite rig (Berg CN212 and Aguilar TH500) and my favorite bass. I've used the Nordy VP5 on 90% of the gigs I've done over the last 2+ years. It is just a wonderful instrument. Lightweight, and a 'modern P' voice that sits wonderfully in the mix.

That was a longwinded way of saying 'yes':)

My expectation is the weight difference between the two will not be terribly large. It all depends on the transformers.

If he figures out a way to make a 300w tube amp in a Monique sized chassis around 20lbs.... I would be screwed financially and at that point would likely own more Jule amps than Jule.:hiding:

Even a 100 watt tube amp requires about 20 pounds of transformers. I will know the final weight for the 300 within a few pounds when I get these transformers in house.

The above was fun to write, but it is real. I have a guy who sticks a Shure 57 into his Sousaphone and he wants to try this with Monique.

I told him I would post the question for him.

For anyone interested (since peeps love clips) I did some hasty clips of me just running each string using my Nash JB 63 and Monique with a new MiniFooger Drive pedal.

Track 7 is Monique flat (Sens pulled at noon).
Tracks 1, 3, and 6 are the ones I like most. 2, 4, 5, and 6 are pretty extreme settings of the pedal. It has quite the range, and I'm still figuring it out. I think it pairs nicely for adding some lo-fi quality (dark with a touch of fur) to a very pristine amp.

There is a certain zen (and, for me, a certain calm I miss) to one bass, one amp. I knew it for a time. Don't know if I'll ever know it again, but I wish you luck and happy playing!

I have been speaking with Jule a lot over the last few days as I had to send my Dovecage back home for a minor fix. I have had it almost 2 years and it was time for a trip back to sunny Santa Cruz.

As usual, I am amazed at his level of customer service and his genuine love of what he does.

He is kinda like a kid in a candy store.... even around his own amps! My DC is an early one and he is actually excited to be able to make a few tweaks, add the push/pull line out, put on an easier to remove cage, etc. to one of his babies.

Enough brown nosing.... but Jule's amps sound amazing and his dedication and commitment to what he makes and obviously loves to do is pretty damned cool!

Some follow up after the NAMM test, finally met the man himself and the test driving the amp, Nice guy and nice build no doubt. The Hall E is still fine to test because it is less noisy and relatively spacey than upper stair hall.

Just simply love what it sounded, EQ set flat, played the booth jazz bass which I know nothing the onboard config is.. still sounded SO GREAT! Don't have much preamp / rig impressed me lately but Monique does! Can't wait to get mine and start making music with it! :D

Finally know why people crazy about their Monique, it just SOUNDED SO GREAT! :hyper:

Some Monique-related news: I'm happy to announce the arrival of the new nostatic album - "Time's Up". 10 songs, with side 1 (old school thinking) consisting of studio tracks, side 2 is live. This is the "sparse lineup" of vox/sax/bass/drums that I've been working with for most of the past year and a half.

Oh congrats KJ... I'm 41 and been playing for 21 years ! Bet you have some great road stories ;)
Love my TH-350, and can see why the 500 is your amp of choice, gotta try a CN212...
