My Monique started life dressed in a dove cage and I went that way for aesthetic reasons. She gigged that way too, but if I’d let my sensible side rule the choice I’d of brought the rack mount and installed her above the Dementer 300 she drove. But a few years down the track and I picked up a black Bamboo case to dress her up in. Every girl should have a little black dress in the wardrobe, yes? The big D is gone now, along with my back and all the gigs. She does look great in my music room or amongst the wall of amps at the woodwork shop. But regardless of what she wears she sings!

I was the Bamboo first. Fell in love with the first pics I saw. All 40’s 50’s radio vibe. Then Jule does the rack. My practical self said, “self I said, we need this!” So in a Protec rack bag it does all the gigs. The Bamboo is so gorgeous. My engineer said when he sees it it makes him want to play.

Thanks Jule! All this beauty and practicality would be trite if Monique’s sound wasn’t the real substance.

I was playing last night wondering that it’s so clear and hifi while each note is coated with lusciousness.

A compressor built into Monique has been mentioned by several folks. It would be fun to build, but I don't see it happening because of a few things.
Monique is pretty full of "stuff" so there is no room for the additional compressor bits. Much of the beauty of a compressor (IMHO) comes from the transformers used. Those transformers are physically big, and expensive to come by. Current solid state compressor substitutes for the real thing do work. So did the Yugo.

Hello everyone, I am a French bass player and I am going to buy Monique !!! I hesitate between the rack version and the cage? Are the components exactly the same? For me, who moves a lot in training and concerts, it is safer to take the rack version (but much less beautiful than the cage!)

Hi. I'm also a French bass player, also about to buy Monique. The rack and the cage have identical components and sound.

Be patient, they are very busy right now. I registered to the waiting list a month ago and my dove cage is still not ready.

If you move a lot, Simone is a good alternative.

D'oh!

I read it (in my defense, with tired eyes, on a small screen) as gitard, which I took to be a variant of guitard, an unflattering epithet sometimes applied to our guitar-playing brothers and sisters to imply that they are backwards, sonically-selfish, self-absorbed souls who always dial-in too much bass in their EQ, turn up too loud, and have trouble counting simple rhythms. Sometimes this is true, but it is often unjust (my brother is a guitarist and a capable and sensitive musician -- I've played with plenty of both types).

Hmm. Pre-click (honest) attempt:

Monique and Simone are spies. I believe that they are looking to see the big smiles on the faces of bassists.

Chercher -- to look/search; that's the word I was... looking for, though the articles and prepositions and tenses trip me up, too.

I generally find it easier to understand something that's written (or said slowly enough!) than to say it (with correct grammar) on my own.
