Probably not an absolute answer to the Input/Effects Return question.I run mine into the front of the amp.. Not sure which is better or possibly more efficient, but it works for me..
I can't help with the rack mount dimensions but it's probably on the Jule Amps website. There is a "table top" version of Monique and also a Monique with the M700 amp that's known as the "Tardis". Also on the website.Hello All,
I scoured the thread for a question or two and I did not see them, so forgive me if these questions are posted here somewhere.
Questions: What are the dimensions of the Rack Mount Monique? and Is the Rack Mount Monique available as a desktop version (with rubber feet)?
Many thanks for answers.

I’m sure this has prob been discussed ad nauseam. But how responsive is Monique to tube rolling? Did you find the cost to be worthy of the benefit? What tubes did you use?
The Monique rectifier tube, the EZ81, is stiffer than it needs to be. It is designed to handle gear a lot bigger than Monique. If you can find a decent EZ80 replacement, (softer, more swing) it is worth trying. The rub is that nobody manufactures them today. Recent experiments here with the Chinese 6Z4 rectifier have been fun. Jury still out. The 6Z4 requires re-wiring.Jule has commented on various tubes he has rolled in the amp. Apparently it does respond.
The Shuguang 6SL7 is still the preferred sound here.
Yup. My difficulty was not so much with the SOVTEK sound reproduction as it was with the physical assembly. Too often, the glass envelope was askew (unsightly), and the gain varied enough to keep me looking. Consistency is important. The only spares I have ordered are a pair of Shuguangs 6N9Ps that I bought off AliExpress as domestic supplies seemed depleted. FYI, I have seen some comments that Shuguang is making tubes again...no idea if they will or are producing 6N9P.
I had planned on buying a current production Tung Sol 6SL7GT, a handful of NOS 6SL7GT variants, and a NOS EZ80, but I have sort of lost most of my interest in rolling tubes. My Monique 700 sounds great and is loaded with
If I remember correctly you said the Sovtek can be very good but they are inconsistent...guess I got a good one.
- V1 Shuguang 6SL7GT (labeled 6N9P = Chinese 6SL7GT)
- V2 Sovtek 6SL7GT (GT not indicated on tube)
- V3 JJ ECC82
- V4 JJ EZ81/6CA4
Thanks for the response, it is helpful. I get what you mean about the capo being sort of a drive as well. Can’t comment on drive, but I’ve used my capo (sort of a drive when set with high gain), and my Monique sounded great. Also, I use an empress mkii compressor with fantastic results. Both the noble and Monique are designed to be clean. Both are fantastic preamps, but ultimately to my ears, Monique sounds better and has more tone sculpting ability. If you don’t need a pedal format, Monique is the way. (Ive owned both)
I have a number of drive pedals, I really like the Katana clean boost. It can help drive Monique into saturation but also has a FET circuit to give its own saturation which is more high mid while clean boosting Mo brings out a bit of the lower mids.Hi guys, I’ve been looking into this preamp and reading the early pages of this thread.
Thinking of canceling my noble order and getting one of these as it sounds more like a true tube sound to my ear in recordings I’ve heard.
A few questions, is there any drives that stack particularly well? I know the main purpose of it is a clean tube sound but I’m curious.
Also compressors, I know it has natural compression built in via the tubes but I’m assuming if you were to run compression in front you would want something more transparent and true bypass.
