Jule Amps Monique part 5

Posting this to give a sense of what Monique sounds with Piezos on a fretless. Mo was run through the power section of an AI Focus and then into a Phil Jones Bass C8. Miked for the recording, not direct. My band is called The Worst, so take it for what it is. (And yes, I am The Worst bass player)

Cool. Sounds good!

I am doing a gig tonight and playing my Rob Allen MB-2 fretless 5er thru Monique. I find Monique sounds great with piezo, passive, active, etc. I haven't played a bass thru it that didn't sound great. My RA, Fodera, Squier, cheap Peavey, old Fenders, etc.

Well over 2 years for me playing my Monique (I actually have 2 of them!) and they are the only amps I want to play (I sold everything else).

Do any of you pair your Monique with a Bergantino CN212? I'll have one of the new Monique 700's in a few weeks, and my only cab currently is a Berg CN212.

yes, tried my friend's Monique + CN212 rig, sounds amazing as usual... sounds similar to my own Monique + CN112 x 2 rig as well :) You won't be disappointed!

A quick picture of my Tardis on top of a MAS 112 at the Reading expo! It's a killer combo!

First working gig with my Monique!! This gig actually supposed an IEM gig, I just brought my Monique for DI purpose originally, since it definitely sound better in my IEM with tube DI anyway, when I arrived the venue, was told the IEM system is down and unable to setup, As to catch up the rehearsal schedule, so we went for the floor monitoring route. DAMN!!! This things just sound HUGE and GREAT!! Can't wait for next gig and play the Monique! I'm so happy with this amp in the real world situation!!

PS: Also, this is first time I play the Monique with other cab instead of my Berg CN112.

Yes it's the Amp Dude from Auralex. It really does help to isolate the head from the cab.
Cool. I didn't know it exists. Thx.

I have 2 Grammas and use one at every gig. More for consistency than any perceived tonal advantages. I know my stage sound will be the same while using a Gramma if I am on a hollow stage, grass, wood or concrete. Cool product IME.

EQ flat or close to it, Sensitivity pulled out (more textured to my ear than pushed in) and at 10:30 to 11:00. Might boost mids a bit, highs a bit -- highs are more of an upper mid boost to me. Might boost bass, rarely... Mids and highs influence the kick some and add a bit of aggressiveness, Sensitivity influences the feel a good deal -- I sweep it until I find a spot I like.

I tend to twist knobs...

I run my output all the way up or nearly so.
I have my sensitivity pulled, and usually set somewhere between 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock, depending on what I'm looking to hear.
Treble is rolled back to 9 o'clock
Mid is rolled up to about 3 o'clock
Bass is at about 2 o'clock (but I'm also boosting my active OBP-1 on my bass at 40hz for probably 4-ish more db of gain)

What settings are my fellow Monique owners using ??? I just received my Monique 700....

First, Congratulations on getting your 700. Enjoy!

I think this isn't a simple question to answer. For me, my settings depend on what cabinets I'm pairing Mo up with and the acoustical conditions of the room. The one setting for me that is a constant is the line level output. I always have that pushed in and dimed. The sensitivity I always have pulled out and varies between 10 and noon. Every other setting is variable depending upon the cabinets:

Berg AE112's (which I no longer use) - Treble around 10 o'clock, mids at 10 o'clock, Bass at 1 o'clock
Baer ML112 (no longer use) - Treble Flat, mids at 11 o'clock, Bass at 1 o'clock
Baer ML112 with DR Bass 112 (no longer use)- Treble 11 o'clock, mids at noon, Bass at noon

TC112V1 (presently gig with) - Treble at 2 o'clock, mids at 2 o'clock, bass at noon to 1 o'clock. FYI, I bought this cab used and I think I have a tired horn compression driver (I haven't done a tone sweep on it yet). I ordered a new one so the treble variable may change when I install the new one. The bass adjustment with this cab comes last. Depending on the room, I adjust the bass response by playing with the tuning ports on the cab first before touching Mo. I also may decouple the cab from the floor before I make any bass adjustments as well.

All of the settings above are approximates depending on acoustics. I always start out with flat eq settings on Mo, and then play with my cab placement first. Couple, decouple, close to the back wall of a stage, angle, etc. This usually gets me in the ballpark with what I want to hear. Then I will make final adjustments with Mo, and perhaps minuscule adjustments on my bass preamp / tone knob.

I tell ya, I love the fact that you can tune the TC112 cab. This has helped me in so many different rooms with bass eq'ing. I know some other manufacturers have tuning capability, but I wish all manufacturers would use this system. It is an excellent feature to have.

One thing I will add to the EQ conversation is that, while I generally try to avoid using too much boost with any EQ, my experience with Monique has been that boosting the bass, mid, treble, or all three does not seem to throw things out of whack (as some EQ's are wont to do), and things remain musical and compelling.

+1. I agree. It's amazing how the eq works. It never does sound over bearing, just musical as you stated. You also don't notice much gain boost as you boost the frequencies, it's more of a feel thing. But I can vouch that when boosting the eq levels, it does effect the level of output when looking at the input meters on a mixing board! I also noticed live that when getting aggressive with boosting the bass you can really hear it kick in through the subs of a PA system. My sound engineer can vouch for that! :)
