Jule Amps Monique part 5

You figure out how to get some grind? I'm still a fan of the Pork Loin with mo.

"Comparison is the thief of joy."

For now, I'm just going to use my Rat Tail into a BDPG when I need some light dirt. Fortunately, the set for that show is me rocking fuzzes (Magnetar & TAFM) or using my Rat Tail cranked. I'm still trying to debate between a VMT, an Agro, a Myco Three / Swell B-Peg, and a B.K. Butler Blue Tube (just checked out some samples today and it sounds very close to what I like in dirt) for my future needs. I'm super picky when it comes to dirts and it takes me a long time to actually make up my mind. I really do need to at least make a trip up to Prymaxe to try some of the options that they stock. I like the concept of the VMT, but I really was not impressed with the B3K when I had it for a month or so. I definitely need to take a ride over to guitar center or sam ash to try out a pork loin. The demos of that and the green rhino sound cool, but I'm not quite sure if they are for me.

Had the Monique 700 out on a handful of gigs now. Used it with my Berg, Baer and my MAS cabs.

Crazy headroom at 8 ohms, huge power. Felt dizzying concussion inside your head effect on a long gig with one ML112 that no other amp has produced with this cab at 8 ohms. Have two of the very first ML112's and have tried many of the top gigging amps over the past couple of years. First outings with the new MAS112 at 8 ohms=awesome. With 2x115 or 2x112 running at 4 ohms, this amp is frightening, monstrous. In a very good way.

Congrats, Jule!

My goodness. My goodness.
Thank you.
Thank you. I wasn't sure whether to post -- that little sketch was the late-night result of a dying battery and my getting distracted, as sometimes happens -- and I don't know much about recording (still find setting the levels in digital recording frustrating -- they always seem too low to me). Anyway, I'm gratified if you liked it.

For anyone curious, the interface was the Scarlett 2i4. Goofed around a tiny bit more with it and the Roland. Impression so far, at least using the instrument input, is that the Focusrite has a tiny edge in quality of the recorded sound, though the Roland has some features (auto-level, better metering, compressor in the control software if you want it) that are tempting. Both are budget-ish interfaces, though.

Very cool.

Jule any plans to make a power-amp-in-a-box version of the 700 for people who are happy with their rack Moniques?

Or better yet, a 'stereo' double 700 in the same sized box for those of us who have unreasonable expectations? ;)
Hmmm. Hmmmm. (Visualize slow beard pulling) I had not thought of putting the 700 by itself in a Rack. Very easy to do. And with a slightly deeper (not the current 10" depth) Rack enclosure, I am pretty sure I could stick two of the 700s in there.

Because of the relatively tall 1200 watt power supply I use with the 700 watt amp this would not fit in a single rack space. It would still have to be a 2U.

Hmmm.

Is the power supply as wide as it is tall? If not then maybe you could mount them to the sides of the enclosure?
It is significantly wider than it is tall. It will not fit when turned on its side.

The 1200 watt power supply is 6.5" long, 4 1/4" wide and 2 1/16" tall. A bit of a beast, but it is a large part of the musical brutality of it all.

Don't worry about this type of foolishness, just start building 700 Combos so I can buy one!:p

That's great news Jule. ;) I may have to wait a bit until I have the resources to 'support' the endeavor (if its kinda sorta in the ballpark I estimate), but keep the idea on a back burner... Because I'm definitely interested.

It would be in the same wattage ballpark as what I'm now using for most gigs (what reads like ~430wrms/525w "repetitive burst') per cab , and it seems like the 'other benefits' would make it worth it. If I do need the 'huge' power I sometimes pull out (1500w per cab, but I'm not really hitting them with that much, just providing headroom), I could certainly switch to my IPR.

What's you're vision of this? Black box, no controls on the front but a pilot light? Or would you consider putting attenuator knobs like a more traditional power amp?

If there are no attenuators, I'd love to see power switch or switches on the rear and the amps 'internally' jumped so I wouldn't need the 'through' cable I now use to get signal from one amp side to the other. *If there are attenuators, they should probably be big and archaic and scary looking. ;)
