Jule Amps Monique part 5

Is the Tardis version rack mountable? It seems to be the same preamp as the regular version just lighter in weight?
No. The Tardis is not "rack-able."

This is because the focus of the Tardis was on lightness and its position as a desktop (or cabinet top) unit. The All aluminum chassis is too light to withstand the rigors of rack ears.

That's not an option. I'm not interested in using a 4U rack for something that's only 2U.

Otherwise it's the same preamp? Is there any difference between the Dovecage or the rack/desktop version?

Maybe I'm missing something but I can't find much info on the website about the various models.

Dovecage = Bamboo = Rackmount = Tardis as far as actual circuitry goes? Just different housing?

Tardis = Non rackmountable, lighter version of the Rackmount?
Exactly the same from a technical and playing perspective. No difference. It is all in the packaging. With the addition of the new 700 watt amplifier, the Tardis chassis is proving to have a serious advantage in the cooling department. Aluminum itself is an excellent thermal conductor (relative to steel) and the Tardis has from the beginning had more cooling openings than any other Monique package.

You aren't missing anything that I can see. You are right, the Tardis is, "Non rackmountable, lighter version of the Rackmount."

There is a serious group of players that do not use/want racks, and prefer to sit their gear atop cabinets. That was the group that got me intrigued about the Tardis package. Kind of unique, but pretty cool.

I've had Monique now for a year and 4 months. I figured it was time for an update. I posted an update on my blog:

The blog is just a reflection of my time with Monique, my current thoughts, and what I have learned over this time. I hope you enjoy it!
Wow! Merry Christmas to everyone.

This is awesome. Thank you for taking the time to write this. Excellent. And I agree with you on the Line Level Potentiometer. It would be good if it offered more resistance.

The potentiometer physical resistance issue has to do with a the size of the pot and the limited availability of pots that have a DPDT switch attached to them. If I could find (or anyone else can) a physically larger pot with a DPDT switch attached to it I would go for that. All that is being currently manufactured are of the small size, hence the lack of resistance.

The best pot builders I am aware of are Bourns and Alpha. I have tried them both, and currently use a pot that comes from Alpha. There is nobody making a large pot with a DPDT switch on it that I know of. . . Alas.

There is much going on right now for little Jule Amps and Monique. A swirl of activity, all of it good, all of it will make music, but quite a swirl. I had no idea how much interest there was in this little amplifier I am adding to the feature set of Monique. I would like to take credit for prescience, to say I knew it would work this well, but I respect this audience more than that. Good people have guided me and paved the way. Add to that the "interesting" complexity of importing something this powerful and technically complex from across the Atlantic and I can say it has been a learning experience, and a swirl.

I am very grateful. Thank you Dave.

And yes, the Sensitivity Control makes no "sense" whatsoever. :)

It is all about the music.

Sad sad day but my mint Monique is in the classifieds. On the plus side I do have a baby coming!!!
Kyle. Some things are more important than music.

If you want to post this up on the FB/moniqueforbass page, that is cool by me. Right now the waiting list is still over a month. You might make somebodies Christmas a bit more special. :)

Maybe it is the time of year.

There is much to be grateful for. This community is one of those things I am grateful for. I appreciate Talkbass and especially this small sub-community that knows of Monique. At this time of my life I feel I am doing work that is more important than any work I have done previously. That is, I have the gift of being part of your music, around the world.

I thank you.

You are very welcome Jule! I plan on continuing reviews of all of my purchases (eventually). I honestly felt that doing a review a year after living with Monique would be beneficial. Especially to folks considering a purchase.
We all get excited with new equipment, however, I have a belief that we need time to get used to new equipment and the way it interacts with the rest of our rig. I feel I was better equipped to offer a review a year later since I had gigged with Monique and played her through different cabs in different circumstances.

Oh, and the Line Level pot really isn't a big deal, just one of those small things that a previously OCD person like me notices. It does what it is supposed to do.

Now, thank you for the products you make! I would also like to thank you (and people like you) that pay attention to us (the bass players) and react to our needs (and wants). Also, you are a craftsman, something that is vanishing in this Country. It gives me hope to see people like you still building quality products!

I am watching Frozen with my 2 year old daughter (home with a cold) as I type this. That movie makes me want to rip out my eyeballs and puncture my eardrums (sorry, seen this friggin movie literally hundreds of times), but I would rather watch it and play with her any time than with my Monique.:D

No offence Jule.;)

P.s. Over two and a half years in now with Monique. I dont want to play anything else and haven't since I got my Dove Cage. Amazing amps and Jule is the $h!t to deal with (that's a complement!). Still plan to get out to finally meet him in person early/mid next year.

My Granddaughter came by last night and I sat through her telling me most of the "Frozen" story. Very cool. The door is open.
