Jule Amps Monique part 5

Two quick and dirty cell phone shots. It is a little less than the size of two Minnies. The weight though is actually a bit less than Minnie I think. Haven't plugged it in yet - I'll do that first thing on the gig. Life is always an experiment...

Stoked to hear what you have to say about this!!
+1.

I have been anxiously awaiting the release of the Combo Monique as well as the M700,

I think I am just going to stand pat with my Dovecage and Minnie though. I love the sound/look of the Dovecage and the Minnie (with 2x Berg AE210 cabs) is loud enough for any gig I would ever do without FOH support. Both fit nicely into my small Studio Slips bag which is super portable. I prefer the footprint of the Minnie over the M700 for sure.

I also sold my backup Monique (rackmount) as I kept going back to the Dovecage/Minnie. Over 2.5 years with the Dovecage and it is just what I prefer, I guess. It isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Same likely with Minnie.

Need to get Steuart over for some A/B testing. Last night's gig was a regular venue but a different band (karaoke), it was loud, and I had ear protection in. So I couldn't really tell anything about sonic subtlety - wasn't that kind of night. Zero issues being heard with the single H1203. Tonight was a different regular venue with a regular lineup. I did have another variable though, as I ended up playing the new Smith fretless 5 the whole night (I did most of last night as well). I'm listening to the recordings now and it sounds as good as it felt in the moment. Tonight I could hear everything that was going on. Fretless can be tricky. Since you don't have the same attack as fretted, sometimes it can end up sounding too compressed and mushy. Or if you get a good attack then it can lack punch. No such problem tonight - the bass was flat out killing. B-string was tight and I could pluck anywhere between the bridge pup and about the 18th fret region and get good definition.

Monique tends more towards the "compressed" side of things (at least another buddy of mine thinks that - and there is something to it). The bounce in the tubes can take some of the edge off. Which can be perfect for fretted, but again, sometimes problematic for fretless depending on the tone you're going for. Between Minnie and the 700, my take is that the 700 is a more immediate and a bit more supported tone. Minnie seems to be more towards the Monique vibe, with just a tad of sag. The 700 seems to drive the H1203 a bit better on the low B.

Will be interesting to run them back and forth. Have another gig tomorrow in a new room, then another on Monday though I have to bring my PA for that so I may just go direct on that show.

I'm sure the m700 sounds fantastic as well (since everything that Jule does sounds fantastic). but I agree... I'm pretty content on the look, sound, and compact size of Monique/Minnie. I didn't realize the m700 was going to be that large. It seems to hang off the back of the 1203. Not sure if I'm into that.

However I am eager to hear what this sounds like. I've been gassing for a backup Monique. I think if I make a move, I'll just get the Monique 700 tardis. This would come in handy for those outdoor summer gigs by the beach. Especially since we are not covered at those gigs and the salt and humidity in the air is a lot to contend with. I wind up leaving the DC home on these gigs due to this. I also use my TC112 v1 on these gigs so I can utilize the entire footprint of the top of the cab.

Really excited to hear the comparison between the Minnie and the Monique power amps. I'm getting ready to jump on the ordering wait list... Definitely prefer gain and master, like someone mentioned above, so stoked on getting to hear some comparisons between these two power amps.

So what is the Line Level on Monique then if it is not a Gain?It works like a gain to me just not hot enough to overdrive the first stage 6SL7?Plus by pulling out you get increase gain to drive more sensitive Poweramps sounds like gain to me?Line out on back of DC Monique is for level of DI on Monique Line Level on front of DC is for about of gain or signal that is sent through preamp circuits that hit the power amp it is hooked up to.
Monique doesn't have a gain control whether separate or integrated - you can drive the line out tube a tiny bit but that's still the back end of the pre not the front, so it's kind of like having 2 masters with the pre/power. Not a bad thing, but also not advantageous in any way.

After looking at the Monique 700 I see what you are talking about not having a Master Volume for the Power amp so like Bob Lee from QSC says it has a Fixed Gain power amp so it would be considered full up all the time and the Line Level would be used to control overall volume>Im so use to my Dove Cage didn't even notice the Monique 700 not having a Master Volume! The DC for me is the most useful version that can be used numerous ways with many variances.
