Jule Amps Monique part 5

You are going to really like it :) As for the Minnie verses the M700, its two different flavors of good. Minnie rolls off a little on both ends, the M700 seems flatter across the spectrum. The M700 is quieter in operation, but feels louder. I have run my Monique through a few effects loop returns, IMHO you will be happier once you try it on a dedicated power amp. An interesting thing about Monique is she can sound very different depending on how you amplify her.

Thanks for the response. I guess you managed to survive the weather. I lived in Austin for twenty years or so, so I know what it's like when it decides to open up the spiggots down there.

So you are saying I shouldn't really judge Monique until I have the right amp for her.

Not sure if I should go Minnie or M700.

Still above water, but the weather has me feeling pretty poorly.

I settled on the M700. The reason was the flat response. I feel like it just has power for days and the bottom feels endless. The Minnie is a great rock amp, but it does not feel as bottomless. The Minnie was easier to transport, just because it is so small, but the fan is louder. The Minnie also gets hotter, the M700 runs nice and cool all the time.

As for not judging Monique, I think you will still be really pleasantly surprised no matter how you run her. I really liked her through a PJB 6pack I had around for a while. I have never been happier than with the M700 though.

There is definitely a difference in tone so it's really just a matter of preference. As Dominick stated, I also have used it with different power sections as well ( crest prolite, puma, Minnie, mb800, m700). All sounded good in their own way but I prefer the m700, but again, it's a matter of preference.

Well, I agree that the recording is not going to represent the way the amp feels feels as it reacts to the playing.

After listening closely, going back and forth, I definitely like the 700 and the Minnie better than the GK (a little too ganky in the high end relative to the other clips, but not so bad taken in isolation I'm sure), and I favor slightly the 700 over the Minnie. I can definitely hear the bass extending sightly lower and I LIKE that.

I've always been sort of a vintage, hairy tone kind of guy, but more and more I find myself gravitating to the cleaner side, but with grunt and bounce. Seems like the Monique is going to deliver that in spades!!

Yeah. I heave a few cabs, and I am building a board with two outs. Plus I was thinking it might be nice to have an all on one. But really, I did not have the money. Just got a new bass that took all my available funds. You are going to love this set up.

Crickets chirpin' all up in here!

I guess everything that has needed to be said about Jule and his amps have been said, and then some. I can't wait til mine gets here. Supposed to be here on Thursday. Then I leave for an out of town wedding and won't be back to play with Monique until Sunday! Arrrrrgh!

I hope the Tardis sits on my cabinet OK. It is an MAS112 with a 15" width and 20" depth. Kind of the reverse of typical cabs. From what the previous owner said, the feet should be located inside enough that that should not be a problem. So the box may overhang an inch on either side, but the feet should not. I guess you can always orient it rotated 45 degrees one way or the other, or simply put it on a stool or milk crate, etc. if worse comes to worst.

BTW, I received an GK MB Fusion 800 yesterday, and I've already printed out a return label and I'm shipping it back. Absolutely beautiful box, but not my thing tonally at all. I hope Monique is way warmer and tubier than the GK. I hope Monique sort of leans more to the Tone Hammer 500 tone than the GK tone.

That's odd. GK heads are known for their growl. I haven't tried the MB Fusion series, but I've played pretty much every other head of theirs fairly extensively.
Assuming the MB Fusion series is similar enough to the MB series, did you use the B channel? That's the MB's verison of the RB series Boost.
Crank up the Boost and you get GK Growl. Crank up the Master while cranking up the Boost and the "hit the rails" on an RB head.
The MB series did a pretty good approximation of hitting the rails, but they don't have the same power supply so it's literally impossible to do it for real.
It's was good enough for me to use in a live environment. I retired my 84' 800RB from daily gigging and bought an MB500 to replace it.

To get that amount of growl out of a Monique you'd need to run a boost or OD pedal into it IMO/IME. The Sensitivity Knob will give you some nice harmonic content, but even cranked and pulled out it's not enough for me (coming from GK and Ampeg).

Of course, your bass and strings comes into play as well.

After all that, growl has different meaning for different people. When I think growl I'm thinking Geddy Lee, Duff McKagan (GK), Mike Starr (Ampeg), Justin Chancellor (GK), Rex Brown (Ampeg), etc.
