I played in a roadhouse band for a lot of years and always wore a tie and some sunglasses.

None of the ruffians or regulars engaged me.... which was the point. I probably reminded them of their boss, parole officer or the weird guy that no one talked to at work.

It was a good way to be left alone in a moderately dangerous place.

I’ll take shorts and sneakers guy that can play over strung-out looking, leather face that has spent more time getting tattoos than practicing playing bass every day of the week.
