I had the Fretless version. Beautiful bass. The back of the neck was natural with black headstock like yours. It was the perfect bass to me. Jazz like neck, P body, one of each pickups. I like the metallic moss green paint job. Awesome deal. Enjoy.

Congrats on a great score! If this was my bass I would turn up the amp as loud as possible, get a pick and play the heavy riff of Paradise City for a few minutes!

I was very surprised to see a plain neck. I thought these had a glossy black neck.

I have an identical 87 Jazz Bass Special, except that mine is fretless. The back of the neck is the same as in your pictures. Looks like you got a great deal.

I drive by a garage sale and two bass shaped objects catch my eye. Might as well stop! I figure it will be the usual. Some forgotten, back bowed wretch from the attic. As I got closer I saw a Traben
with a gaudy chrome sun gracing the front. I look just beyond that and almost dropped my coffee. A super clean Fender Jazz Bass Special!! I’ve wanted one of these for a long time. $375 and I think I got a helluva deal. Plays like a dream!

Bringing a Traben to a gig would likely feel like playing a gig in Drag, you’d feel a little scared and embarrassed at first, but then embrace the freedom and glitz. Like an actor made up as an alien, the Traben could bring a whole new performance/personality on stage. That being said, I’ve had numerous opportunities to exit a shop with one, and never have.

And, your new Fender is sweet. With stories like yours, I’m convinced it’s not that you are lucky, but that you are deserving of good fortune.

Awesome find! Take care not to lose the F caps off the knobs. My Jazz special is missing them, and if you can even find a set, the prices are ridiculously high. Someone on TB mentioned putting a drop of silicone underneath them to hold them in place, as they apparently have a tendency to fall off.

Every time I see a garage sale, I have my fantasies.

I have a Salvation Army not too far from me that I never go into. I noticed a Dan Electro in a pile of guitars the other day and ran in. It was just leaning against a pile of other stuff, like garbage. I asked how much. $399. LOL.

How do they do that with a clear conscience?

Anyhow, that's how my garage sale adventures usually wind up, too.

My first bass was a Power JBS that my parents bought me when I was 12.
It is still my main fretted Fender.
Never needed anything else.

In almost 30 years, I’ve never needed to adjust the truss. Even though I tested it a few years ago when I took the neck off to clean it, just to make sure it still turned smooth (and it did).
The PJBS has a slightly different neck though with a graphite plate on the headstock.

I did not know that about the graphite. Is that the only thing that separates a PBS from a Power PBS?
