Lakland 01 Club Part 2

+1,000 - My 55-01 fretless and fretted basses record better than many other more expensive instruments... the same goes for my 44-01s. There's a reason I gig either a flatwound-strung or roundwound-strung 44-01 95% of the time: they sound big, thick and punchy with a nice sculpted sound. It sounds like a 44 or 55-01 and that's just fine with me. ;-) The MK-1 electronics are really quite robust and pleasant considering their low cost, and coupled with the fact that it IS a Lakland, it has that 'Lakland' sound, though not to the same degree as a 44-02 or 55-02. No problems or complaints on my end... I have a 44-02 to make comparisons and still gig the 44-01 or 55-01 more than the 44-02!

I keep telling people. The key to a 55-01 is that it doesn't sound like a P, it doesn't sound like a J, it doesn't sound like a 'Ray. It sounds like a 55-01.

If you accept that for what it is and also listen to it in a mix, it's really a very nice bass, especially for its price point.

as to pics, well its a standard 5501 in natural finish w maple neck, & you know what they look like, right?!

Going to swap the black knobs for chrome (kirk went to the trouble of even looking up a UK supplier for me, which was neat of him) when that's done I'll take a pic for you all.

I tend to agree with the theme that says 'upgrade the Barts for US barts & install the pre-amp' - ie., make it sound like it sounds, but better!

I don't have it yet, but ....

I've been saving for months ... muuuuunnnths! ... now for a 4401 (I've got 1 month until I have all the money I need for it). I've been looking to get it on ebay though because none of the Glasgow 'git' shops ever seem to have one in stock .

But, a shop here just got one in , so I finally got to play one in the wee soundproof booth and aaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaaahahahaaaa I'm in such a good mood!!!! It's freakin' awesomeniferousnessology!!! Me and that bass had such a good time in that sound booth - I think one of us is now pregnant! That ... see that right there ... that's £650 of my money - GONE! ... that's what that is ...

Just had to share that (WAY too excited to be working right now!!).

OK! Got this a couple of weeks ago from Chef. Great bass! It's a 55-01 with Nordstrand DC5 pickups and Lakland LH3 preamp - all factory installed.

What's my number???

What pickups and pre are you sticking in there? The Bart MK-5's or Nordies or something else?

LH3 (in there) + MK5s. The decision was quite difficult, but I have always wanted to go Barts (never did in my Jazz, went Nordy NJ4SE), and I heard great things about this combo! I am also a bit weary of the extra space around the pickups (that kind of thing tends to bother me - it could be a non-issue though.) I can always change later down the road...

I happened to be in the heart of Penn State country when I was playing.

I've been a Jo Pa fan for 40 years now.
