Lakland owners group part 42 ?!?!? FFS the current thread was hard to find.

I think the fact there are 42,000-odd posts on laklands in, what, 3 years, justifies it's own sub-forum I would have thought. Has anyone asked the mods about this ?

Just realised what a fantastic versatile instrument I have in my Lakie 55-94.

Despite my love of fretless, if I had to have just one bass I think it would be my fretted 55-94 strung with Labella flats (B-G). Though I might de-fret it, if that were the case.

I think I have to get a fretless 55-94 or 55-02 into my life.

Anyone got recommendations for strings for a Hollowbody fretless ?

For a long time a bass guitar that sounded like an upright was my holy grail and the Lakie HB was part of that search. Now that's covered (as well as it will ever be) by my Rob Allen, I'm looking to get something different out of my Lakie.

I've tried TI flats, and Tapewounds (from Status, probably re-branded) and have never been totally happy.

It had a mongrel set of flats on when I bought it (mis-matched E string was probably an A from somewhere else, the rest Lakie originals probably) and that was probably the best yet ... weirdly, because the odd A string in E position was obviously low-tension and added some growl.

I think next up are a set of labella flats, or possibly (just because I have them hanging around) a set of very light rounds (.090 E I think).

I have never tried this myself but I was told by the techs at Lakland that it is not possible without some modifications. In fact I believe there is a thickness difference between the US and Skyline headstocks that may make it completely impossible.

I will need to recheck my email to see if I can find that response.

If you want to keep flats and you have already tried and didn't like TI Flats then my next suggestion is Chromes. Those flats are my second favorite and most people that don't like the TI tone get along with the Chromes very well.

Playing my first "show" tonight with the official lineup of the band. It's just an open mic, but I'm still super pumped. :hyper:

It's taking place at the UNH mub, whatever that is, but I guess there's pretty good turnouts there. Wish me luck!

BTW, we decided on the name. Santiago and Dunbar :p
