Hey guys, do you think it is possible to fit US tuner to a skyline? because I really like how the tuners "stick out" more on the US JO. I think the tuners are made by hipshot, but which model should I take?? HB3's??? cheers!

Just compared my Skyline Glaub tuners to the US 4 string tuners. Looks like the headstock thickness is the same (Sky vs US), but I could be a off by a few microns since my Sky's headstock has layers of paint on it. The tuners on the '51 are long key reverse (you turn 'em clockwise to tighten the string), the 4-76 has shorter keys. Both are open geared Hipshots. The US posts (where the strings wrap around) are wider than the Sky's and have more V taper, they also do NOT have the threaded insert/sleeve like the Sky tuners.

Honestly, I'd either call Hipshot, or email Lakland. Hipshot has great customer service and should be able to tell you if both style tuners are made to fit the same sized whole, which should be the determining factor.

Like I said...I did email Lakland about this. Here was the response verbatim:

"This is unfortunately not possible for a number reasons. The headstock is a different width and the holes are different sizes on the US Glaub vs. the Skyline Glaub - hence the tuners on the US bass can't be put on a Skyline; they won't fit."

Again I am not 100% sure that applies to other Skylines but my gut instinct would be that it does.

GHS definitely makes Lakland's strings but I don't know if they're the same as the GHS flats, I've never used those. But the JO's have that classic old school thump with a nice midrange. They also have great tension, not too stiff and not floppy at all like the TI's.

Interesting....I am SURE he could find a buyer for his "loose" 55-94 here! I have played some older Lakies that were comfortably loose....but sounds like he liked the 55-02...maybe it is time for him to try some newer Lakies (and sell the older one!!)

Something interesting happened in church today; our bass player was sounding righteous (as usual) on his Fender Deluxe 5, I let him run an extended vamp on my 55-02 through his GB Shuttle-Max 6.0 and he grooved to a new level. Afterward, he said his 55-94 feels loose in comparison, that's why he doesn't play it. We use the same strings, so I'm wondering if maybe it's the density of his Lakland's neck that he's not bonding with. What do you guys think?

He's been playing a lot longer than me and his bass collection is larger than mine* so I take his word for it that he feels a difference, but I've seen him play most of his basses; I've never seen him play his Lakland.

*Includes Warrior, Roscoe, Fender, Pedulla.

Good idea.....they are VERY solid....as Ed said in the recent clinic...they can flatten a city block!
