LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #42

I am at wits end with my Lakland (55-01). It plays great, how I want a bass to play. But the sound is just glaringly wrong, about the only time the bass sounds "right" is with a small jazz combo, otherwise it just sounds out of place. I have two choices, change the electronics, which would cost me 500, or sell the bass and apply that money to a better bass. These are the hard decisions ladies and gentlemen,

$500 to change the electronics? That sounds high to me (of course, it depends what you do). Have you checked with the folks at the "Lakland 01 Club"?

Here's what I did to my 55-01. I actually bought it for the sole purpose of doing these mods, and never even played it as an -01. All electronics were removed and sold in the classifieds here, then a matched Nordstrand NP5 was routed in the front and a BigSplit dropped right in the back. Stacked knobs for total control over each pickup, and both are dead quiet when soloed. This mod was far less than $500, and I can't say enough good things about how it sounds!

Yeah, that would seem to be the logical way to approach things.

Not sure if he had to pre-order or just bought something in stock at a store, but either way, if I noticed an issue like the string retainer missing, or when picking it up at the store plugged it in and it played poorly or didn't sound right, I would have refused to take it and demanded that it be taken care of before I took it home. Then again, if our friend was as tactful about contact and service inquiries as he has been here... :eyebrow:

He said he ordered from an East Coast (I'm thinking USA) store, but lives in Belgium. I'm thinking there's no way he could have played it first.

I'm also gunning for his first 'slight' being more of a language gaffe than an attempt to come off the way he did.

What I *will* say is that I'd be sending the axe back so fast the stamps'd still be damp when it arrived back at the store. Hellz, I'd kinda like to know which store it came from so's I can make sure not to buy there.

Of course, my UPS spidey sense is tingling...

Sorry guys (flame suit on) I only like cream on my beer, cream soda and creamer in my coffee...(oh yeh - and whipped cream on chocolate or banana cream pie).....not a big cream pickup cover fan.....

sorry to disapoint ya'll....should be a good discussion starter though....

Holy spit, I just felt the Earth shift! Doude, you're the one guy I thought we could cout on to find *something* positive to say about.. well, anything.

For what it's worth, I kinda agree with you on the pups, but that's more a reflexion on the fact that I'm a basic black guy when it comes to pup covers.

Now, I don't take cream in my coffee... or the coffee itself, for that matter. Nor can I handle cream soda or whipped cream on anything -- *even* banana cream pie.

But beer, on the other hand...

Darn you!!! ow you got me thinking about making one of my CHIs fretless.....maybe I can stop Pat in time? hmmmm......

BTW - the "material" issue has been fixed but it set the project back at least 2 weeks! :(

will be well worth the wait though!

Waitup: Are you getting yet another new axe, Doude? If so, then this has officially gotten kinda comical.
