I've considered sending it to Carl more than a few times, but the long distance kept scaring me. I had suspicions that the month-long shipping time when buying the bass from Florida was what messed it up in the first place...
I also contacted the new owners of Lakland about this issue, and they said my warranty couldn't cover the problem, so I basically thought "screw it" and decided to get to know a local tech in SF.
And with the aggressive slapping I tend to do with this heavy-ash bass, I decided to "max it out" by giving it a preamp, too. I guess I AM finally happy with this thing, but it seems there truly is no cure for GAS.(I can't believe I'm still looking for new places to blow my money on...)
The playability is SPOT ON now, though. Where two other techs had failed, mine took a quick look down the neck and spotted a ski-ramp hump.
But yeah, the prices are definitely extremely high, and there WAS that whole ridiculousissue with the wiring, but they sent me a hundred bucks for my troubles.
sorry to hear that you had to handle it locally....I can see where you are concerned about the shipping etc.

as for GAS being relieved? I wish.....maybe we shold have a no picture policy on TB...and no raving reviews....that is the ONLY way to cure GAS!

Thanks. I never fail to get complimented on my unique bass. Beaver Felton at Bass Central had Lakland pull a unit designated for his inventory off the line and change the specs to Lake Placid Blue/Maple for me. I believe Lakland may have discontinued the classic series on 55-94s shortly after that.

Well, I pulled the trigger, I bought a 2005 US Lakland Bob Glaub, I think I got a good deal for $1,500. Sadly, the original case doesn't come with it. Can I still buy the cream case from Lakland?

May be considered a little off topic but I thought it would be an appropriate place to post. I found the other day a post by somebody commenting on the fact that the Chi-Sonic drop in replacements for the Lakland 44-01 were practically done and the 55-01 replacements just needed a little more work, but I now can't find the post to find more information!
Anybody care to comment?
hopefully it will be the same person who posted! I actually am in the minority of people that really like the stock Bartolini Mk 1s, but I'm tempted to get the Chi-sonics to have two sets of pickups I can go between depending on what sounds I want/need.
