Just wanted to chime in and say my old candy apple 55-01 has been killing it 5 nights a weeks in New Orleans as well as travelling to upstate NY, NYC, Alabama and Florida the last two months. Sounds great through any backline and with my fresh set of Ken Smith strings it simply kills every night. Great bass-definitely one of the smarter purchases I've made in my career. Chicks dig the color too! Props to Lakland.....get me an endorsement deal!:hiding:

Hi, everyone. I had a 55-02 that I played from 2002-2006 but sold because the wider neck hurt my hands and wrists. I've wanted to get another Lakland...and did so last week.

I bought this BG from AndyMan in Ohio (edit: please excuse the bland expanse of rug):

The date in the neck joint/heel is 12/9/2002, and the s/n of BG 115 puts it as the final BG made in 2002. I believe I'm the third owner--with the first two being from TB, as well.

I love this bass so far! May I please have a LOG number? Thanks!

Who do you play with in Nola? I'm a Jazz Fest regular (listener, not player, unfortunately) & a big fan of all things Louisiana music.

Thanks for the welcome, fergbassplayer! I'm loving this BG so far!

What kind of strings do many of you put on your BGs?

I've been really liking Sadowsky Blue Nickels on my Sad and Fender Jazzes, so I had my tech put a set on my new BG. I asked him to put them through the body if the windings fit past the nut.

Well, the windings didn't go past the nut on the E and A strings but did fit through the body on the D and G, so he put them on that way to see how I like the feel of the through-body strings versus the others.

After a couple nights of playing it this way, I really like the feel of the through-body pair, and I think there's more "heft" to the sound of those two, as well.

I notice that Lakland sells nickels. Any thoughts on those on a BG? Will they "fit" through the body? Other ideas?

And to answer your questions about strings, I really like DR Black Beauties. They aren't for everyone, but I love them on both my BG and My JO.... and, I think, they look cool too:cool:

I don't own a BG (GAS'ing really badly for one though), but can answer with confidence that all Lakland Custom Wound rounds can be strung thru bridge or body just fine. The custom flatwounds must be strung through the bridge only. I never have been a SS man, but the few times I played the Lakland SS rounds I really liked the punch and heft they had. I've always been a nickel person myself though. The cost is nice on the Lakland Custom Wounds as well. They are made for Lakland by GHS, and are essentially the same as Boomers, but there are a few differences in gauges, as well as the fact that they are longer scale.

Nice! US Lakland PJ goodness. Me, I'm a big fan of DR Sunbeams (they're nickels), especially on my Glaub w/Dark Star and my Fender P. They're warm-sounding with bite.
