Marcel you've summed it up exactly. I haven't heard the LH-3/Hanson pups but as you and I have discussed, one of my problems with the Bart stuff is that they sound too soft and smooth...no agressive sounds at all (IMHO). And when you turn up the bass control just a bit the low end becomes very bloomy with even less articulation. They also sound very compressed to me. I've now heard some sound clips of the LH-3/Hanson pups and they seem to be more open sounding to me with less bloom on the bottom end. Of course I'm only listening to a sound clip and not the real thing.

However as I've mentioned to you, tomorrow I'm going to the shop I bought my bass from to compare the Barts to a new 55-94 with the LH-3/Hanson pups. Right now I'm leaning towards taking the plunge and going for the new set up. Hopefully I'll know better tomorrow after I do the comparision. I'll keep ya posted bro.

So does the LOG give out numbers... cause I've found my bass for life in the Lakland camp! Been a Fender guy since the 70's!

Funny by the way: on the piece of paper about "Strings for the Lakland 5 String" it says it's best to use a taper core B-string, and that those strings are made to Lakland specs. However, on my 55-60 is a full core B-string...? My teacher also noticed that it doesn't properly touch the saddle.

Bah. I have full-core Rotosound 66s (45 to 130) on my 55-02 and they sound fabulous. I don't buy the whole taper-core thing at all. I'd kind of like something in a longer scale because I prefer goin through the body, but the 66s have done very well by me so far.

My East j retro deluxe arrived yesterday and now resides in my DJ5!!! The pre, along with the nordstrands sounds AMAZING! The steroid level has pumped itself up to true "Ahnold" proportions! A pleasant surprise was that the stock j retro deluxe plate fit very well on the bass. I was afraid I was going to have to drill the stock DJ plate to accommodate the two switches. No need to though, the East plate just dropped in very nicely!

My other "mod" was on a light blue pearl jennies replacement guard I picked up here in the classifieds. Got it cheap and had planned on trying to paint it since the light blue just really didn't compliment a black bass. I had a brainstorm though and bought some window tint film. Throw some water on the pickguard, apply the tint film, a few strokes with a squeegee and careful cuts with an exacto knife and VOILA! A black pearl pickguard!! We'll see how it holds up over the next few weeks. If it tries to peel up at the corners or scratch, I think I'll just redo it and hit it with a few light coats of clearcoat. Will post pics when I have some decent light outside.

I'm going to be coming into a little extra cash in a month or so - I want to get a P style 5 string. If anyone's got a used somethin or another lying around, let me know!

I like tobacco bursts and maple boards - something traditional looking. Yeahhhhhhhh. But I'm open to other versions of the hotness.

cool! there SHOULD be some of the 55-64 basses left in burst....check with Mark at bass club chicago or one of he guys at bass Central...they should know! as for having Carl put in a J at the bridge......no issues! it will look like it has ALWYS been there...had him do that to a US one for me....

I recently got this - built in 1997, NOS condition. In this pic it looks very blue, but it is teal. What can I say: it plays itself and sounds amazing. I recently also had a shoreline gold, 2010, 55-94, but sadly I could not get the action as low as I wanted it, unlike this one here that has the lowest action in the planet.

I been thinking about doing one for my CAR 5594 fretless...HAS to be the "right" tort guard though.....certain ones would not look as nice...

Without seeing it, I'd never in a million years think that a red tort guard would look good on a red bass. That looks HOT!
