I just got the LH3 preamp installed on my 44-01 that has upgraded barts. I also got nickel lo riders put on and a nice set up. This thing plays SO nice now and the tone is outrageous. I haven't got much of a chance to play it because I'm still recovering from a wrist surgery (got a cyst removed) and I'm trying to take it slow but I played it at the guitar tech's place for a little bit and it sounds MEAN. The only downsides are that the toggle switch that came with the LH3 turned out to be useless for me and the knobs, when set flat, are not all pointing in the same direction. Also... the volume knob is a lot looser than the other knobs (it turns a lot easier), anybody know why this might be or how I can fix it? Thank you all!

I know I already sang this bass's praises, but I just got to see this on a real screen (as opposed to my phone). Holllleeeeee crap that's gorgeous.

Markus, how would you compare the sound to a similarly spec'd 44-94 with a different fb wood (e.g. maple, rosewood)? I've never played a fretted bass with an ebony board and I'm curious as to the differences according to your ears (tonewood agnostics can stay out of this one )

When reinstalling the knobs, try using a business card with a small slot cut in to one end. Place the card over each pot post before sliding the knob and ottoman gout on the business card. Then slide the card out. That way, they all get installed the same depth and w/o rubbing the finish on the body.

Thanks dude!! Well the strings are still bright, but comparing to what I remember with my son's maple fb 44-02, this bass has more snap. There is this crisp snap to every note....which I really like. Just gives it a little more articulation. Love how this neck feels! I'll keep my ears open as the strings settle a little more. Hope this helps!

Ummm Markus is a non believer in the tone variances of fretboard woods. We've argued til we were blue before.

I disagree. I have a well worn pair of Puma Suedes in black with wide white laces that would look better with that bass.

I like the pure looks of the Ebony w/o dots. Very clean/stealthy looking. I'm glad I opted to o that route with my 44-07 Mai-Tai from Markus. Yeah, you know the one...

Yep! That works too! Man these basses are versatile! I have some black suede Pumas...and about 3 pairs of old school European Adidas that work too!

Sorry if it's considered a heretical view in the LOG, but count me among the nonbelievers in the notion that wood type has a significant effect that can be blindly discerned , let alone in a mix.

I gotta say I was a non believer too. I sold my US Glaub in maple/ash because it was too bright for my tastes, then bought a skyline Glaub in rosewood/ash and there was a noticeable difference in warmth. Same Lindy Fralin P pickup in both.

I'm a relative non-believer as well. Or rather, I believe broadly, but I think that the difference between, say Indian and Braz rosewood gets evened out when you play through an amp of PA, with other band members and in a given room's acoustic space.

I'm with you. That bass needs to rock a room to pieces. An LBD and heels are a little too dressy for that one.

Usually with tone wood debates sample size is often too small to make any accurate conclusions. I think in markus's case he has enough basses to choose from to negate that issue

in the mix it typically doesn't matter. I find it affects my playing though... Basses with more treble and midrange response can be played w a lighter touch in my experience and get good articulation and note definition.

Markus, when you say snap, are you referring to lower treble? Like the leading edge of the note (for lack of a better term)?
