I was very satisfied after doing the first gig last night with the new Duck Dunn Skyline (Inca Silver). I didn't dig the Hanson so I put a P-46 in there and restrung with GHS flats. The neck is perfect: feel, intonation, and look.

Glad Super T was able to clear this up!
the 55-01 is a very solid bass....it is the "least expensive" of the Lakie basses but is no where near "cheap" in quality sound of feel!
the woods etc are the same as the -02 series...the -02 is more versatile "out of the box" but people really seem to like to modify -01` basses!

For sure, the 5502's are not "cheap" feeling or sounding basses. Great instrument for the money. Same on the 01 - I got mine on TB complete with the LH3 preamp and the Chisonics and it sounds great. In fact, I usually pick it over my 02 for most things, it is a very capable bass as well.
Since this is the Lakland owners thread I thought I'd pose a question to all of you... have any of you ever considered upgrading the Hipshot machine tuners to something different?
I have a set of Gotoh GBR640 machine tuners that I bought for a project bass but then never used. I always loved the Gotoh's, but I don't think they will just drop in with out some modification to the tuner holes, as well as drilling holes on the back of the headstock.
If anyone has any input to add it would be appreciated.

I upgraded a 4401 and JO with the American made tuners from Hipshot - which require a different ferrel spacer and can vary from model to model depending on the stock tuner type. There is nothing wrong with the licensed tuners from Hipshot, I just like the look of the American version and I wanted them to match the drop tuner I installed in both cases - there was really no performance increase.

nope...never saw a need....both the US and licensed versions work well and look cool to me.
don't know about the Gotoh's "dropping in"...doubt it.

Yes they are great basses and congrats on finding the one for you. Now, the challenge starts on not getting more!! Have you seen how many folks around here own! It is apparently a very serious affliction I do believe; I now need another and I don't even know why.
