Greets. I am diggin' my 5576 and would like to pick up another
Lakland. Weight, however, is a big issue for me. I like my 5ers at or under 8.5 lbs (the 5576 is 8 1/4), and it's durned near impossible to find a 5501 that's TRULY under 8.5. So I wuz wunnerin'........

Since I prefer passive 'lectronix, if I found a 5501 between 8.5 and 9 lbs (hard but doable), lost the preamp and swapped the tuners, about how much weight would I save? I realize it seems like a lot of effort for a few grams, but for me, taking a bass that weighs 8.9 and getting it under 8.5 would be well worth it.
What does the current 5501 have for tuners?

I hear ya Lomo, a few grams can make a difference. The 5501 uses Hipshot Lisc. Ultra-Lite's so you're probably going to be hard pressed to find lighter tuners. But, don't forget the metal knobs - swapping those out for wood, plastic or rubber will save some weight.

I don't know how much you would lose by ditching the pre though. I would perhaps look into some different pickups. I've found that cast epoxy sealed pickups tend to weigh a bit more than their unsealed counterparts of the same model type. Just a thought.

Thanks much. I was hoping the tuners were chromed and heavy.....back to the drawing board.....

I'm genuinely interested in that floor. What kind of wood is that? Gorgeous.

Somone asked before...I can't remember what they said it was:crying:
