Are the dimensions from the edge of each saddle to each notch the same? If so what about the saddle screw bore?

The distance from the left edge of each saddle to the right edge of each notch are the same. However, the E and A have wider notches than the G and D so the distance from the left edge of the notch to the right edge of the saddle on those two is greater. Bore is the same on all saddles. I'm using a pair of digital calipers to take measurements

I'll measure mine later because I'm curious. But I'm going go from low point on notch A to low point on notch B.

So I played my HB this morning at church and I'm pleased to report that it handles dirt really well. I got several comments about the sound. The clean sound was nice and full, and the Darkglass B3K was screaming nicely!

Your bass came with concentric knobs right? If so, and the lead colors are the same, just match them up with what you are removing.

Well, originally it came with concentric pots... but a preamp was added by a previous owner. THe Ice Blue JO has actually has different wires.

Do a Google search for 1962 jazz bass wiring. There are several examples

Yeah, chis have an extra ground wire. Problem is, the ice blue is a prototype and both wires are black. The new chis have black and white ground wires.

Did you diagram or photograph the original configuration? If so post it and we can figure it out.

Ok, thanks Tex for the diagrams, I got it figured out using them and one pic on the LOG. It turns out that the 2 ground wires are not interchangeable. The black must go to the center attachment and the white grounds to the pot. Problem is, with the Ice Blue JO, since its the prototype I assume, both ground wires are black.

As long as the shield and ground are wired to a grounding spot, I don't think it matters where. I'd contact the folks at Hanson for the definitive answer, though.

That's what I thought too, but the 2nd ground is soldered to the pickup cover. Just had to switch them around and it works perfect.

I will say that the white 44-64 Custom is cool, but if I drop $3700 on a bass it will come with a 6 month wait...

In related news, I spent most of the weekend getting to know the seafoam 44-64. 1.75 neck is no problem and actually quite comfortable and the bass sounds killer, even unplugged its just "live."

Oh, and about the whole "nickname" thing, the 2 US Laklands I have acquired with actual dollars are keepers. Goldie was acquired in trade and I am very grateful I got it when I did as it opened up my eyes. I have been very lucky to acquire the current three. And the Skyline was a great bass too, but up next to a US model it was lacking certain elements. Much happier with the US Glaub. And, bonus, its my first "really good" p bass.

played the Carlo fretted at church last week (we did some stuff where I needed the "snap" of the ebony neck)..I think the Scheff and maybe a fretless may get to go this week.

Haha, she seems to be handling it, in part because I've sold/traded a fair amount of some stuff out. I'm up to 5 Laklands at the moment! One is presently for sale, but I probably need 2 gone. Just have no idea which to part with! And of course I have 2 targets in my sights. (But one is an EBMM!)

My new "Lakland Corner." 2002 US Glaub with Jazz taper... and the 2004 Skyline hollowbody that arrived from a TBer this very afternoon.

Just a regular corded drill. Secured the plate to wood using the normal screw locations and also had the wood secured so it wouldn't move. Nothing to it. Just make sure you don't put the 1/4 inch hole for the Z-mode switch too far away from the knobs - it'll run out of cavity room quick. For the LED, used a 1/8 bit because I didn't have a 3mm handy worked just fine.

Alright guys, I put the long scale neck back on my decade so I could hear the alnico chis with a standard neck. I dig it! And then i decided that I should keep that bass original (as in, body to neck...the pups stay!) and the short neck is headed back to Lakland for a new body..

call me crazy

so now I'm plotting endlessly.

Idea #1: Decade body, J Mascis purple sparkle finish (matching headstock) Invalid Link Removed probably cream pearloid pickguard

Idea #2: Bob Glaub body, Chi pup in the sweet spot

Idea #3: Throw it on a JO with Chis, ala Ben Kenny

...thoughts? Besides that I have a problem?

I've decided that I want a 5'er again but I;m not sure which that I want. My stable currently consists of 44-02D/LH3, 44-02D/Barts, 44-60 Custom and a 44-64.

I've been considering a 55-02, 55-60 and the 55-01. I'm leaning toward the 55-01 just because I don't have that model.

Thoughts?

well a 55-01 is a good choice....you already know how versatile an-02 can be.....the 55-02 would just give you that extra "sumthin sumthin"....and a 5 banger 55-64? heaven with 5 strings...

...PS - how is the important one in your life? doing good again I hope (nad pray!)

Also, this HoBo immediately is a candidate for the title of best-for-me neck ever.

yup...those necks are nice....just wish it were a smidge wider (for a 5th string that is!)

Re: the short scale HB, I've seen one in person and this picture (indeed, it could be the black background) is not doing its proportions justice IMO. I thought the bass looked good at the time, although I'd like to see it again.

My issue with the short scale HB is the potential for neck dive with a light body, larger headstock (not taking the angle of the photo into account - it's just big for this body) and the upper horn not reaching the 12th fret - where's the balance point on this thing?

..ask Markus....he can talk all about it I am sure...I bet his min-HB was played for many hours long sessions....
