I don't have audio samples of just the bass, but I did use it on this entire album except for the songs "Mexico" and "Wild". The song "Seventeen" has the bass soloed in the beginning of the song. I had flats on it when recording this album and now I have TI power bass strings and that with the joe bardens is amazing.

Lakland informed me that they have no records for early Hollowbody basses. They indicated that early record keeping wasn't very good, but that given the specifics of the bass they agreed it was an incredibly early version. I may reach out to Michael Tobias to see if he remembers, but it's definitely a special bird. And the tone....!!

That looks an awful lot like a @MarkusBass photo... probably just the fact that it's a beautiful Lakland on a nice wood floor.

New Owner here! Posted a NBD thread, but the 55-01 is t getting any love! It's got a Bart NTMB preamp and USA Bart Mk5 pickups in it.

Could be a bad solder from the bridge to the balance, ground or the white and red wires need a better connection to each other.

Could be a bad balance pot and in need of replacement.

Could be a pickup phase issue, which might be the mystery function of your bass pot but wired wrong or gone bad.

Thanks for that! Gives me lots of little rabbit trails to run down! I'm almost guessing it's a crappy solder...I'm hoping so...that's easy to fix!

Been really enjoying the new DJ 5! Played it on several gigs so far and a few services in the church and it always gets the sound. Just one issue so far...... after taking the stock strings off within just a couple days of owning it I noticed some fret buzz at the 11th fret. Pulled out the fret rocker and confirmed it was high and only at the G string. I guess after making the string change and neck adjustment to accommodate the different gauge etc the fret must have shifted at the end. I've got a good luthier close by who can remedy, just need to find the time to get over there. Other than that all is good.

Ok...I actually sat down with the NTMB wiring diagram and checked things out.

First off, it's the mid pot that is push/pull...therefore it is switchable mids.

As for the blend pot, I pulled it and touched up all the solders and voila! Blend works perfect now with both pickups fully engaging! No volume loss panning from one to the other. It sounds AMAZING!

Thanks for the suggestions...I'm thrilled with how it sounds now...it's HUGE!

Finally got my 55-01 all set up! Ordered a new set of knobs from Lakland...same kind as the 55-94...should help setting the eq up a little more.

The previous owner had less than zero relief in the neck and a super light touch. I'm a digger...so I put some relief in it and dropped he saddles and now it plays like a dream!

I'm really happy with this bass!!! Played it this weekend for Easter services:
