Max's 44-01 is among the best Skyline basses that I've laid hands on!
Personally, I have not been thrilled with some of the Skylines that I've owned, from both Korea and Indonesia. That doesn't mean that I haven't had great ones, because I have. I've just had so many US Laklands that I'm spoiled. One of the great Skylines was an older cherryburst Korean 44-02 that was as good a player as a US. The other 2 great ones were/are the Geezer 44-64 that I sold, and the Diablo Rojo heavily modified 44-51 with 3 pickups. My only beef with Diablo Rojo is that it weighs 11 pounds. The other 2 Skylines I mentioned were/are lightweight. I sold the Geezer to fund something else and I just can't play blacked out basses. I gig basses that standout visually - colorful, sparkly, etc.
It should be noted that John Pirrucello has overseen Skyline production since the Dan era. So, leadership hasn't changed. I think most quality issues that I've observed were due to poor neck wood selection and occasional bridge misalignment issues.
