A security guard that arrived before SWAt
Was shot and wounded through the door by the shooter.
I found out about this early this morning from an email from my 86 year old Mother. My cousin and his daughter were both at the concert and were both shot. He was hit in the foot, but his daughter was hit in the arm. The shot shattered bone and severed an artery. Luckily he kept his head and put a tourniquet on her arm and got her out of the line of fire. He was able to flag down a car and got here to the hospital. She had a couple of surgeries so far. She may have issues with her arm when she is recovered, but thank God she is alive. Where are all of these sick pieces of garbage coming from? We are in evil times!
Not to get too deep into specifics, but "converting" a semi to a functional full auto is as simple as this.

Having had some personal experience with this device, it is simple and reliable and would be simple enough for most any DIYer to fabricate the same type of device for any self loading firearm. If it happened to be something that fired from an open bolt, a few minutes with a file is all that's needed to go full on rock and roll.
It is also possible he may have had a perfectly legal full auto weapon. Anyone with a clean record and $500 for the tax stamp can legally purchase full auto weapons from private owners of same. the price has risen considerably since the manufacture and importation of class III stuff for private ownership ended under Reagan, but those pieces in private hands at the time of the ban are still legal to own and buy/sell. Not to mention any member of LE can obtain the latest and greatest with little more than an authorization written on department letterhead and signed by the department head. As with anything else in a society as free as ours, those pieces obtained by LE have been known to fall off the official radar and wind up being (illegally) bought and sold, so the idea of an individual determined to own a full auto weapon, especially if they possess the ends to pay in large sums of cash, is not that far fetched.

I think fhm555’s post should be allowed because it is informational - many shooters already know this but most nonshooters do not, and there is a lot of misinformation bouncing around out there right now. Using fhm555’s post as a jumping off point for divisive gun discussion will not be tolerated, though.
fhm555, one thing I would change in your post is the word “functioning” in your first paragraph should really be “functional” - a crank or recoil type device simulates full auto, but it doesn’t convert it.

The whole thing disturbs me. Could this guy really have done this? No history, no indications that he was planning this, nada. The thought did briefly occur to me that someone else could have done this, shot the guy and escaped. NAH!

Also, I over-stepped the boundaries in a comment I made on @fhm555 's informational post.
I'd like to apologise for that. Our laws in Ireland regarding guns are a whole lot stricter and I should've known better than discuss something I didn't know enough about.
Not belittling Rory, but he certainly wasn't the only one. There were plenty of bands who crossed the border to play in the North but admittedly he was probably the biggest name.
Horslips, Stockton's Wing (who I was driving for at the time), plenty of others too.
Not to mention local bands like The Undertones, and of course plenty of others in the arts and normal life who did their best to carry on normal lives despite the actions of a few.
Another coward who chose to lay in the shadows and punish innocent people
for the problems he created in his life. People like that don't deserve to have their
name said out loud ever again.
I feel for the families of the victims and pray that at some point this country will find a way

Without getting into political commentary, I think there is value to providing some accurate information about firearms when an event like this happens. Our forum members can be expected to have very different experiences and varying knowledge of firearms, and the same is true of reporters. As a result, there is sometimes inaccurate information distributed.
The most important thing around this is not issues of whether part A or B turns a semi-auto into a full automatic; the important thing is the human suffering caused. However, there will be an ongoing public discussion about the weapons involved, so I think there is value in clarification.

of course he wasn' t the only one. The Irish bands allways played in Ireland, especially back in the 70 's
(maybe more often than they do today
)but Rory had already a good reputation on the continent and even in the US.
He could play where he wanted to play and played in Belfast!
Most other international (and nearly all British) acts did not. They played in London or in Paris instead.

I'm so sorry that your family was impacted by this but I'm glad they made it out alive. I don't have children but I can empathise with your cousin seeing his daughter harmed by such an act: I can imagine this is a very difficult event to have lived through. I hope they both fully recover physically and emotionally from this. If they need any help at all (medical bills, etc...) please let us know (or PM me) and I will help in any way I can.

I've read 1. there were more than one shooter, muzzle flashes seen coming from the 4th floor 2. ANTFA materials found in his room, country fans more apt to be Republicans. 3.
