Lets Buy A Wish Part II

We have purchased a previously made maple Peanut with a MM pup. We should have a picture soon and I will post it as soon the picture arrives. I could possibly pick up the bass in Friday but I am not 100%. The people who have agreed to send in contribution please do not forget to include your name, address, email address and tb handle.

Wish said we could have the Maple Peanut (for 100) and I paypal'd the current account balance. Whatever contributions that have been mailed in and get to me by Saturday October 2nd (the cut off for members to be put on the mailing list) will go to Wish as well, as I think his work is deserving whatever we can muster, this will enable us to get the bass on its adventure sooner than expected.

I think that was pretty nice of him.

whoops. I paypal'd wish 100. The 15 that someone sent got me confused as the actuall amount contributed has been 105, then paypal gets some. I will paypal wish 5 more bucks right now.

Ok so after I corrected my bad math.

I have sent him a total of 105.

Perhaps paypal is not the best option for this since they suck up 46 cents on each 10 dollar transaction which really confused me when I went to paypal the balance to Wish - I'll cover whatever paypal eats up.

We still get the bass but whatever rolls in until October 2nd will go directly to Wish. If you are one of the "to be" sent people get your contribution in ASAP.

I would think that you wouldn't have to pay any taxes on the instrument since *YOU* don't own it, we all do (but for legal purposes probably Coffe-Sipper does) and you are simply borrowing it for a while. Heck you could probably even get them to believe that the $10 you paid was a rental fee. Not sure how the taxes would affect that?

A couple of points to ponder:

Proposed route of bass? E-W? Big circle? Just wondering how this will pan out. I know some of us are concentrated in certain areas, like the Dallas guys. I'm in Houston, instead of shipping it, I might fly it up there myself (I need the hours!). Or if it's coming from Dallas, or Louisiana, I could conceivably go pick it up.

Another thing, as this has no truss rod, a day or two might be needed for acclimatizing to your locale's humidity (or lack thereof).

Strings- flats or rounds? I personally prefer rounds on a fretless, but if it comes with flats, would it be OK to substitute ground rounds? Or would anyone have a problem with putting on their favorite sets? Really heavy gauges should probably be avoided, as should insanely light...neck warpage and all... I know some players have a sledgehammer style, while others have a featherweight touch...was wondering about fretboard wear.

Shipping carton- use the one provided, and keep recycling the packing as long as it lasts? Someone, somewhere is going to have to eventually replace it...cardboard only holds up for so long... ;)

Any input on these topics?

With the combination of work and school (and my weekends for certain *ahem* fun with some friends) I won't have any time to review any basses or anything until Summer of next year.

You can take me off the send to list and I didn't send any money today, but I wouldn't mind buying the bass when everyone is done with it and signed it. I'd still love to buy a part of TB history even if I don't have the time to make it.

East to West seems great to me to keep shipping down. Then put it over the border to finish up so it's not coming back and forth collecting taxes. Then from there we vote who keeps it.

IMO it counts in the week you have it. You'll have five or six playable days.

Flats if you ask me, more people are used to them, and we want to keep the wear to a minimum. IMO if you want to string em up with your favorites, just throw the old ones in the box with it. This way I guess we can try the bass with lots of different strings too!

I am working on the excel sheet to send out. I should have it together shortly.

Anyway, Wish mentioned that the bass is a Spaulted Peanut Wishbass. He hasn't gotten the picture out as his DSL is down. I don't know about you but I look forward to the picture.

Another note. As long as this pending storm isn't real bad I should be able to pick up the bass this week. That way I'll get my couple of days in with it and take some photos to post. sb69coupe is here in Raleigh so after my turn it'll go to him then back to me to ship out to the "yet to be decided" official first stop.
