I don't know if this belongs here or band management. Mods feel free to move if necessary.
I just got off the phone with our band leader. We had a gig last night. New room, nice place, new owner with realistic plans and seems to be willing to deal fairly with bands. They liked us. We had 2 more gigs lined up with a good probability of more come summer. They called this morning and canceled. The guitar player's S.O. brought food (munchies) and a can of diet coke with booze in it into the bar/restaurant. When she was told she couldn't bring these in, she apparently gave the waitress/bartender a hard time. Rule #1 NEVER give the staff a hard time about anything even remotely their call. It's apparently illegal in NH to bring your own food into a restaurant or bring a beverage in or out of a bar. Even if it weren't, common courtesy would be to buy from your host. Common sense would be to willingly go along with a request from the staff. This is something you'd expect from a 21YO. All parties were 50's-60's. My guess is had she said I'm sorry and brought her stuff back to the car with no hassle it would have been no problem, though I could be wrong.
The bottom line is the band's firing the guitarist. He and his SO are joined at the hip so just banning her wouldn't work. The guitarist is an old friend so like it or not I'm going to end up in the middle, and frankly, after this I'll have serious reservations about putting something else together with him.
Not what I wanted to come home to after a 10 hour shift on 4 hours sleep.
