Low Down Sound Cab Club started!

Does anyone know if Don has done a EV TL606 inspired cab? A single 1x15" cab like the Mesa Diesel 1x15 or Orange OBC 115. I'm thinking a Kappalite 3015. Thanks!

There is nothing special about the TL606. Don can build a box of the same internal space and tuning that will perform just as well and weigh less. But if you are looking for a box for 3015 specifically, you really can shrink to 3.0 cf net from the 3.2 cf the 606 presents and probably will like it better. Some build even smaller boxes around the 3015 though I think the tradeoffs become pretty apparent below 2.8 cf or so.

Thanks, I will leave it up to Don with the general idea of a TL606 (shelf port of the bottom, or side, depending on how you use it).

Thanks for the compliments guys. I just can't express how happy I am with this rig. It's exactly what I wanted. I also can't stress enough how helpful Don was during the building process. I can't tell you how many emails, sketches, and phone calls were exchanged. I also spent some time on the phone with Carvin and they were equally helpful. I am just thrilled with this little amp. :)

BTW... how do I get my number?

Hey folks, just thought some of you might be interested in this recording of my first outing with my LDS 15/6. This recording is purely the LDS into room condenser mics - no DI. We played the local morning news show this mornin :) went pretty well!

Low end's probably a little scalped due to this being taken from our DVR of the show but I think it came out sounding pretty darned good.

Portaflexer, welcome to the Low Down Sound Cab Club! Sweet setup you've got. Your number is #20, and a nice even number if ever there was, tho' not old enough in my state to drink yet.:eyebrow:

Spread the word/sound of the LDS cab!

My cabinet is done! I spoke on the phone with Don yesterday about a few finals details. So, it should be ready to be shipped out next week.

It is a tweeterless 1x15" cabinet loaded with an Eminence Kappalite 3015 (non-LF). The design is very similar to a TL606, but the internal volume is slightly smaller (3.0 instead of 3.2) and the cabinet is much lighter (26-28 lbs according to Don!:D:hyper:). I wanted a vintage looking cabinet, so the cab will be covered in black tolex, with a vintage fender grey grill cloth and metal corners.

I think you'll like that a lot.
I had two Mesa Diesel 115's, reloaded with 3015's...they're very TL606 in design.
They sounded nice and vintage, with a little more everything than the stock EV drivers.

They were much heavier than yours;)

That cab with a tweeter should seriously become a staple of the ultralight community so fast. Two of those would be nearly as loud as an Ampeg 8x10 :)

That does sound good. Deep and very clean. It matches the sound I already had in my head. Nice...

Thanks man! The amount of sound that comes out of the fEarfuls is insane. You should hear what a low B sounds like. Puts everything else people say "handles the low B fine" to shame :)

So you were driving that LDS fEarful with your iAmp 800? 500 watts into 8 ohms, right?

How far did you have the master volume and gain turned up in order to achieve that degree of output? Were you at like 25% of total capacity? Less? :hmm:
