Very nice setup. The Shuttle 12.0 Max has a superb preamp section and the whole issue of 600, 900, or 1200 watts becomes a moot point.

Thank you. I agree: the SM12 works as a superb preamp, and the separate amplifier allows me to experiment with virtually no ceiling on power. As I mentioned, I'll most likely ditch the QSC once Genz Benz increases 8 ohm power capability in the Max series, but for now, the cab I've chosen is 8 ohms and I needed the optimum solution for powering it and applying EQ. I'm happy with the result.

The sub driver is a Emminence Kappalite 3015LF; the mid is a 6.5" 18Sound 6ND410. Crossover is @ 800hz. No tweeter.

I'd think the mic'd signal would be on dark side if it's only picking up 800 Hz on down. Have you experimented with moving the mic further out so that it picks up both drivers?

I just got off the phone with Don, my cab should be done by the start of next week and over at KJung's for pics and testing. :D

Hello,

I am taking a break from TB, but will post up a pic of your cab, plus a few others (since I promised to do that a while back). I'm really looking forward to hearing your cab!

Also, per the above, here is a clip I did of an LDS 12/6 that is probably a little more representative of what these cabs sound like (at least 'on axis') than Ukiah's clips that seem to be only picking up the low end from the woofer. I just placed the recorder a few feet away from the cab, and the clip sounds VERY much like what it did live (of course, with my bass in a given room with a given head). Nice cabs!!!

I need to post a pic, but my LDS 15/6 showed up this week and sounds really good with my TecAmp Puma 1000. I always want to wait until I've really spent time (and gigged) with a rig, but my early impressions are incredibly favorable.

I'm also really curious about that. If Don uses his typical "really, really great" selenium horn, that should be very, very nice. Light, loud, deep, clear...just like I'd like it;)

if it IS the 2x12, then its also the one I'm waiting to order based on your testing. Fingers crossed...

It definitely is the three way 212 cab, just not sure who it is going to!

I am looking forward to this one. I really dug the 15/6's that Don has made, especially the ones close to the 'Greenboy' design. However, since I am wedded to my little micro amps, I am interested in the 4ohm 212 version, and also the addition of the tweeter, since that upper range is important to me (I'm a stainless steel roundwound guy).

I have a TecAmp s212 here, which is a very nice 'traditional' two way 4ohm 212 with tweeter, using more traditional 12" neo speakers (versus those LF drivers or whatever they are with the high xmax). So, that will be a nice comparison using a few of my small heads (TC RH450, Markbass F1/LMII, and the TecAmp Puma500... all of which put out around 500 watts or so).

I'll post up early tomorrow afternoon with some pictures, comparisons, and maybe a clip or two.

Hey Jared, if you don't mind, refresh my memory: is your 15/6 to the Greenboy/fEarful spec, or is this Don's own design?

I believe Jared's is basically a clone of mine (fEarful with Passinwind's crossover).

Sorry for the slow response but yep, mine is pretty much the same as rpsands with inset handles rather than spring loaded ones. Through the Puma 1000 I am in love with the tone. Set flat it is so full and rich and it takes an EQ well and is a great cab with effects. I do kind of which I had opted for a tweeter with an on/off switch but that's my only regret. Quite a few hours later and I'm still loving the tone.

I am looking forward to getting a review of one of these fEarful designs that really captures the essence of a modern 410 cabinet in a small and lighter form factor......

I got my 6x10 from Don a few weeks ago,and unfortunately, haven't had a chance to really dig into it like I want to. The build quality is exellent, but the tone is not exactly what I was hoping.I was going for an SVT in a smaller package. The cab as is pretty harsh in the upper mids, and just using the timbre and enhance knobs on my Thunderfunk,I can't get the tone I wanted out of it.To get in the ballpark,I have to max out the enhance, and cut around 3k quite a bit. Don said he put Eminence Beta's in it,but I figured he would use the Legend 102s as they are recommended as replacements for Ampeg cabinets. The cab is going to rehearsal tonight so I can hear it in a band setting, and that will be the deciding factor as to swapping out the drivers. I'm calling Don this afternoon and see what he recommends.I'll keep you posted.

i'd love to get a number! I've been rockin an LDS sealed/tweeterless 610 for about a year and a half now. Great cab: cracks skulls and ruptures guts in the smoothest way possible. I got it in black tolex with the '70s turquoise and silver cloth, and after some mild confusion about where the LDS logo should go on my cab, it seems Don elected not to include it! Doesn't really bother me, but I feel bad whenever someone in the audience is blown away and doesn't know what company to google. Not that I'm shy about sharing, but they have to come and ask me first!

Anyway. I'm too lazy to ever do real photo sessions, so all I end up with are 'action' shots. This pic captures my band in the throes of an "In the Ghetto/Suspicious Minds" medley, while a packed house stomped along. The LDS in question takes up the bottom right corner. Can I get a # please?
