Low Down Sound Club, Part Four

Played my M9>>>LDS 15/6 at a 300 person gig in a large hotel ballroom this weekend, with no PA support needed or desired. Master @ 10:30, gain @ noon, cut considerably at the 35Hz slider, voice 3, comp sens and thresh at 10:00 with all else flat..... all on stage (and seemingly on the dance floor) were happy ;-)

I want to thank you guys for suggest my consideration of 12" vs 2-10s.
My 12T is a 28 pounds of punch with my TH500. When I add the second same cab or my MESA PH210. It is a thing of beauty.

Don at LDS is a class act. He's willing to build your favorite type of cabinet with better components and a custom look.

LDS 112 w/Tweeter UPDATE... It's been a while....

3 different gigs/vibes and LDS 112T killed it with an Aguilar TH500, Empress Compressor 4 & 5 Jazz basses. From classic Rock to church and a horn band rehearsal

I used only one of my LDS 112T cabinets and the versatility and ability to dial in "my sound" is priceless. I've not used my MESA Scout 112 since the 112Ts arrived and will probably sell it. The LDS can get the same fat/warmth with definition like 10s.

I look forward to more gigs using both 112 LDS cabs.

Thank You Don Oatman!!!

Well, just got this from a TB'er.....

I'm coming from 7+ years of Shroeder cabs, first a 1212R then a 412BMF and this LDS is waaaaaaay different. I need to get some playing time with it..........I've become quite the fan of the "bright" mids and clarity that Shroeder has, almost transparent sound in my mind.............this LDS 15/6 with my GB Streamliner 600 sounds great, but it's more of a flat sound on the low end, the sound across the board leans more to the almost upright thump vs. the playing a pick sound with your fingers that I am used to. I ended up running my Streamliner totally flat and upping the treble on my pbass and was quite happy............time will tell.............very well built for sure!! More tweaking to come!

LDS 15/6 to Schroeder is like cinnabon to rice cake IME/IMHO. If you have another head to try with it, go ahead. Anything will blast mids through a Schro (I have owned 4 diff Schro cabs and I call them midrange bazookas) but the 15/6 or 12/6 will react more to eq in that they have lows available as desired.

Loaded the delta pro 15 woofers back into my sealed 15156 cab. I like the tone of the C2515 woofers better, but the deltas have so much more efficiency. I gigged the delta loaded cab twice this week and got many compliments on my tone from complete strangers. That always feels good. Even though I always have something new going with Don, this cab is really working for me. Sounds so good live, easy to move, great dispersion at tonights outdoor gig without any FOH. I will be in a real tough spot if Don ever decides to retire. My bank account would look better though....

Since I got my LDS 12/6/1+12 sub, I haven't used the 4x8/2x8 rig much. Great stuff, but the 4x8 weighs 80 or so pounds by itself, and I'm spoiled by all the Neo junk anymore.

But, here in the last few weeks, I've dusted this back off.
Done two gigs like this, and two with GK MBF500 and just the 4x8.

The last one was a smaller 100 or so seat venue.
Sound guy told me to turn up so he could pull me out of FOH and let the rig have the room cause it sounded better :D

My plan for today, since Im on vacation, and before my strings get any more dead, is to make some more videos. One of them is for my new LDS 15/5 cab. It uses the 3015 fullrange driver and a faital 5fe120. It's 1.5 ft3 vb, tuned to 60hz and the mid is high passed at 1.6khz. The mid is very low output compared to the woofer but, that was on purpose. It just adds that little bit of air up top that the 3015 lacks, while not getting harsh or clacky when I turn the treble up to make the woofer growl. It really came out well and weighs 32lbs! Don just does the best work, especially if you have a good idea of what you want and how to get it.

Before anybody freaks about the high tuning, that was my decision because it makes the bottom end sound more like a sealed 10" cab, nice low mid punch with no low flub. It came out perfect. You simply cannot get that compressed feel of a sealed cab with a ported one, but this cab got all of the other good stuff that I associate with sealed designs.

Having heard you play, Chris, that tuning sounds like it'd be great for your sound. Different strokes'n all. I wouldn't dig a box tuned that high though.

I NEED A NEW HEAD!... possibly...I'm running the Faital speakers with the 3 way crossover with adjustable attenuation for the mid and high. I need your recommendations for a beast of an amp to push it.

Faital HF102 1" Driver
Faital 6PR-110 Midrange
Faital 15PR 400 15" driver

That being said... my SWR SM900 just isn't doing it for me live. The tone is great, just put a new preamp tube in it, but I think it just lacks the power to really make this cab bump. Each 15 is rated at 400RMS, the mid is 130 RMS and the tweeter is 35RMS I believe. So... These speakers are asking for at least 965RMS and it's maybe getting 900w. Or, the amp isn't really putting out 900w anymore?

Well, that's my possibly flawed logic. I've been looking at the Eden wt-800, Epifani 1000... But I'm hoping someone with a background with these components can broaden my horizons. Thanks for the ideas. Please let me know if you have any questions about this cab. It's got about 20 live shows with various style bands under it's belt.
