Thanks for the warning. I just finished building a fearful 15/6 and now I have to worry about it hopping off the stage! I have a quick question about the BX1500 setup. Were you running it biamped and getting that kind of volume? I am looking at the BX1500 for the biamp feature, but of course then you only get 300W @ 8ohms, so I was just wondering if that was enough to make my cab jump!
I very much doubt 300w at 8 ohms would do it. Mine was 900w at 8 ohms bridge. Its difficult to give an accurate description of where my volume was really at since all the EQ features were being used and effect volume as well as my VT Bass. All I can tell you was that it was L-O-U-D.
 
As we got inevitably louder that cab was moving around like a Mexican jumping bean. During one particular song I was alarmed to see it jumping about an inch off the ground every time I hit a lower note and slowly made its way to the back edge of the stage.

My stomach is in knots just thinking about that...

I may be way out in left field here, but I'm wondering if there might have been any movement of the stage itself due to the high volumes. Did the sound guy have big, kick ass subs going?

As a side note, I had no idea those cabs were so light. Pretty impressive. But, I've been under the impression that a properly braced cab will not jump around.
 
The fEarful stuff is so well braced you should never need to worry about it moving, ESPECIALLY if you use rubber cab feet.

It seems to me that a "well braced cabinet" would react very rigidly to the speaker's kinetic energy. With enough power, it should vibrate, shake, jump, and hop all over the place.

In contrast, a poorly braced cabinet would have slop and soak and would dampen the speaker's kinetic energy. It would act as a cushion between the speaker and the floor. Given the same amount of power, it would shake and jump less.

Asking because I don't know. Just thinking rationally about it, it seems to me like a "well braced cabinet" would have more walking problems.
 
An infinitely stiff box would not resonate... but would still be subject to the third law of motion. On a frictionless surface even an infinitely stiff speaker cab would slide back and forth in complete sympathy with the motion of the the air driven by the cone. Of course there is no such thing as an infinitely stiff box - so all cabs resonate and that just makes real life a bit more exciting as a vibrating cab is even more prone to slip around a bit.

Happily the real world also does not have frictionless stage surfaces - and mass/friction is what keeps a cab from moving. So soft feet help as does weight. With a light weight / high powered cab like a fEarful, hard feet [low friction] would be a poor choice - soft feet will grab the floor better.

The feet I have on my 15/6 are pretty hard so I throw a soft 2'x2' rubber mat down and set my fEarful on top. This does a good job of keeping it from sliding. I also trimmed one to size that I put it on top to damp resonance transfer to my amp. I got a pack of these soft foam tiles at Ho' Depo' for the floor in front of my garage work bench and borrowed a couple for my bass rig.

+1 Andy (Acme cabs) suggests using a heavy amp head with his cabs to keep them from vibrating around:D

I find my Bergantino AE410 vibrates a lot more than my other cabs. I attribute this to the spray on coating (carpet seems to dampen some of the cabinet vibration at the top of the cab... i.e., my tuner will not vibrate off my Epi410UL like it does the AE410 when really wumping), and the fact that it is 1/2" plywood versus 3/4". Soft, large rubber feet is a great idea with any lightweight cab.... +1

The PA subs were a row of eight 2x15 cabs lined up on the floor ... they were placed to the right, behind the stage. Since I was standing on the left side of the stage I could not hear the PA subs and it seemed my 15/6 was providing alot of the sound for the left side of the venue... but I could be wrong about that.

The stage itself was a plywood, flat-black jobbie, built about 3 ft tall. The stage floor in front of the cab was also vibrating like crazy.... to the point that is was not combfortable to stand right in front of the cab (tolerable but not combfortable). I stood just off axis.

It was kind of a blessing that I did not put my amp on top of the cab since its only 10LBS and would have vibrated right off.
 
Hey guys!

Just happened to talk to Don today (don't see him much these days as he gets caught up on orders), and he mentioned that he had a 1515/66/1 'FearFul' spec cab sprayed with the heavy duty truckbed stuff, and it came out somewhat rough (he said the black spray on finish looks a bit like it has measles... bumpy).

So, he is building a new cab for the customer. He hasn't loaded the cab up, but if anyone is looking for the mother of all 15/6 type designs, and is not bothered by the 'rough' finish, this is available for quick delivery and a discounted price.

He said to call if interested.
 
that's my cabinet he's talking about. Apparently, it wasn't an option so I decided to go with 2 15/6/1 cabs.

Bummer that happened. Yeah, Don says once it is on there, that's the way it is.. there's really no fixing it. You will be happy with the dual 15/6/1's though, and I'm sure Don will get them done relatively quickly. He's getting caught up.

Hope so. I've been waiting for my 2x15 cab for awhile.
