No. The horn and the mid are too far apart. Followed the Avatar TB153 pretty close though (including what appears to be a narrower port opening, but it might just be hard to judge on scale).
To many, close is good enough depending on what one is trying to achieve. There is a reason for everything in the fEARful designs, including precisely where to place drivers...because there is far more than meets the eye (and apparently some people's ears as well).
No need for anyone to tell me it doesn't matter. For some it doesn't. I get that.

Well, I just received my second LDS "tall" (nEarful) 15/6 cab from Don yesterday (I received the first one a few weeks ago). They are loaded with the 3015LF and the new 18Sound 6NM410 mid driver, with a Ralf Patterson crossover at 800 hertz (modded for the 6NM driver per Greenboy's spec).
I ordered the pair of cabs with mirror image baffles so that I could stack them on their sides and have the two mid drivers near each other.
I plugged my USA Ampeg SVT-VR into these two cabs, and heard a bass tone that satisfies me like never before (and I have been playing bass for 38 years).
These cabs absolutely ROCK! I don't know how else to put it. They just rock like no other cabs I have ever played through. I not only hear the bass, but also feel it. IMO, that's what real bass is all about.
Each cab weighs about 52 pounds according to my bathroom scale. Biiiiig sound. Easy schlep cabs. At my age (54), I like easy schlep cabs. The SVT isn't an easy schlep, but it's worth the tone.
Thank you Don! And I also want to thank Ken J for testing the cabs before Don shipped them to me. Ken had really good things to say about these cabs, and now that I have heard them, I can understand why.
And playing an all-tube amp like an SVT though these cabs is pure heaven. It sounds and feels so good that it seems like it should be illegal. Here's a pic of the rig:

I wish I could make it down. I'd want some avacodos at some point too - tradeshow pal I met down there had a bunch of trees in his back yard and he made the best guac ever. The limited time I spent down there I really fell in love with the summer heat down by the river in Old Sacramento. Especially after one of my overweight friends practically passed out from strolling the boardwalks ...Good times! ; }

Thanks, Jared. you are a second timer if I recall. Like those bass shapes, good cosmetic match too. Now I'm wanting a double mocha or something. What part of N Ca anyway?
Yep, my second nEarful. The thunderous, yet controlled lows of your design are addictive and the way it responds to EQ changes and effects just made it hard for me to really dig other cabs, even really good ones.
I grew up in Sacramento, but have lived in Berkeley, Oakland, Stockton, Pleasanton, Concord, SF, Sonoma and Santa Rosa as an adult. For the last few years I've worked and lived in Roseville.

I never said it was a bad cab, didn't sound good, or even great, or anything like that. I'll bet it sound killer. Simply answered a question. There's a reason for the mid and the horn being placed where they are (including where they are placed relative to the woofer) on a fEARFul design. Some feel they can be placed anywhere on the baffle so long as they are just there somewhere. That's good enough for some.
That, Sir, is one righteous looking stack, and I'm sure it sounds even better than it looks!

Back in the club with another 15/6. The 3015LF is really starting to loosen up and I love the sound. And I'm very happy with how it looks too.

Why wouldn't I? I've come to understand some things about the fEARful design, like why things are exactly the way they are. Those cabs that are close to that design are still going to be WAY better than most of the cabs out there, so they are going to be killer cabs. But...if the designs aren't followed exactly, then some of the things that matter to some people (certainly not all, and probably not even all that many) will just not be there. And it obviously ain't no deal breaker to a lot of people.
And I can understand why. Just using a 3015LF and an 18Sound mid alone will make most people drop their jaw in just how awesome that combination is. Still, fanboy that I am, I'm quite surprised that when someone is paying to have a custom cab built based on the fEARful designs, why they don't care to have the plans followed?
To me, people are more impressed with the 3015LF and 18Sound mid than they are the fEARful designs themselves, as if those two speakers alone are all that matters. Some actually think if those drivers were put into any box at all, it's nEARful enough to even be related. Curious as to why when I (or greenboy, or anyone else that understands it) points that out, it ruffles so many feathers.
fEARful = Follow the plans exactly.
nEARful = Any combination of a 3015LF with a mid.
Yup, mention a fEARful and I'll read it and comment on it when I think it's warranted to clear up a misconception about it. There was a point when greenboy himself would have brought it up, but he's long tired of banging his head against a wall. I don't have much of a headache from it yet.
I've just got to say, I don't understand all the negativity directed at Sundogue, simply because he has become a faithful fEarful fan
, and that he actually "gets it", (the entire design concept, that is).
I've not seen him post anything antagonistic toward anyone or any other cab , only excitement at discovering the virtues of the design that Greenboy has kindly shared with everyone. He has been diplomatic in his defense of the complete concept, and admits that not everybody will appreciate, or benefit from following the precise plans but, as I said, he gets it, as do I.

My first LDS 15/6 was all black with Don's bedliner finish which was incredible. But it was actually seeing your cab that made me think about doing something a little more vintage looking with this second one.
FWIW, I really pushed Don to follow the fEarful specs closely and it looks like he did.
