Not true. Cats are ballsy animals. I have unloaded my car after a gig, gone to fix a sandwich, and come back to find my cat either asleep on the speaker or on top of my cord bag.
+1... the FIRST thing that happens when a new piece of gear comes into the house is that the cat immediately climbs on top of it and falls asleep.. whether it's an amp, a cab, a bass in the case, etc. !
My cat does what she wants. There is no training my cat to stay off my stuff. I've tried. Best I can do is stack metal objects on top of it to discourage her. That's the only thing that works.
dunno, mine only started sleeping on my equipment recently but he knows it's gonna get loud when he sees me entering the room with a bass. thats when he'll go out and find a new place to continue his sleeping at.

Haha, yup! I think they get the idea when I see that happen. I don't keep my gear where they can get at it anyways, but there is the occasion where I leave it in the living room over night or something, and they've always been good about it as long as I let them know that isn't something I want them going near. My cats are fairly good and even tempered, and seem to know when I mean business.
Hey, those of us with pets need to know the best ways to keep them free of hair and urine. My dogs have peed on more than one piece of equipment.
You're right about that. Start a specific thread for that purpose so that all bass-playing pet owners can find it.
So JimmyM, when are you going to get a MB cab to go beneath your CMD 121p? We gotta pump these cabs because they really are as good as anything out there and they get a lame rap on TB from time to time. I know you want one!

phat, it's on order and I was told it could be as long as February or as short as early January before I get it. I'd bet February is closer to the mark. Got the single 12". Almost changed it for a 15" though when I biamped it through my B-15 last night. That was SWEEEEEEEEEEEET, if not loud. But for live stuff, I think the 12" will be better. It's got a longer cab than the combo, so I'll get all the bass plus a faster response than a 15".
leech, the Standard 15" has a 1" compression driver for highs and a bigger cabinet. The Traveler 15" has no tweeter and a smaller box. I haven't tried either of those speakers, but I have tried the Jeff Berlin combo (15" and no horn), and it sounds exactly like a really good B-15 but with less noise and no breakup at loud levels (which I admit to missing a lot in the MB). It puts out a good amount of treble on its own, but if you want it to be snappy like slap while still being fat sounding like a 15", you'll probably want the tweeter.
Now to figure out how to keep my dogs from peeing on it...

Got to check out my first MB yesterday - what I believe was a 121P? Dang, that thing was nice!!! I could get a really good grind & growl out of it, and a lot of deep bass. That's the same head as the LMII, right?
The best way to keep a cat off of something (counters, cabs etc) is to place a regular 8x11 sheet of paper on it. Then take an empty pop can and put about 10 cents worth of pennies in it. Place the can on top of the paper. When the cat jumps on the cab the paper will come off, taking the can with, and that will make a loud noise that will startle the cat. Not likely to return in my experience.

Hey Baxter's one cool dude though. He likes to sit on my amps when I play for some reason. ( Vibrations) I have a little Behringer combo I use for practice and he even lays on it and goes to sleep while I play. Weird.
Since this is a Markbass thread I have to say I returned my LMII tonight. Just wasn't for me.
I really really wanted it to work out as the weight to power ratio of this little head is amazing. Clean, clear, loud and punchy. I even bought a laptop bag for it but the fact remains that it is a solid state amp. My F-1X with a JJ Tesla tube was calling me back.
The Alembic has no where near the clarity or articulation but it has that certain something.
Dammit! Condemned to lugging this boat anchor of a head around some more.

That certain "something" is probably that slight tube breakup you get when you run the gain hot, right? I can understand that. It's part of the reason I bought an SWR when I couldn't stand lugging the SVT anymore. It's the only thing I miss out of the tube sound when I play the Markbass, but after ABing it with my B-15N, I'm convinced its clean tone is every bit as good as a tube amp's, so I'll run a small tube pre in the effects loop if I ever miss the breakup. Which won't be on any of my gigs. Fat clean tones are the order of the day on my gigs.
No. I don't run my gain hot. It's more of a "roundness" to the notes played. Also a tiny little "flumph" sound with my fingers plucking a string. ( Huh? maybe thats tube breakup. I don't know.)
I wish I was a wordsmith and could describe it perfectly but I can't. I just know that the Markbass didn't have it, no SS amps Ive tried have it. I didn't even really notice until I played with my band. The LMII sounded awesome in my living room but the first song we played with me and the guitar player driving eighth notes it sounded sterial to me.
I desparately wanted this to work out but this head was just not for me.
