This is true for the most part. The VM Tele Bass has a basswood body with ash veneer. The CVs are basswood (pine for the new butterscotch CV 50s P).
The VM pickups are Duncan Designed, with the exception of the VM Tele Bass, which has a "Fender designed" humbucker. The CV pickups are listed in the specs merely as "custom".

It feels good being wrong.You can't blame me for being suspicious, though. Think of the Roger Waters sig... it's a MIM P with ONE pickup upgrade and they're charging 800 bucks for it. Luckily, this doesn't appear to the case with the Freeman model.

For me a black on black is perfect but the White looks fantastic as well.
Like for all the other squier and fender basses, you have to consider that a bass sold at 400 euros will be sold in the US at $ 400...
A CV squier is $ 350 in the US and 350 in Europe. A MIA Fender is $ 1000 in the US and 1000 in Europe.
For an unknown reason, they still think that 1 = 1 $ :-(
Well over here in the UK the MF does cost more than the CV P in most places ive looked. Around £50-60 more. Still good value but still more expensive.
I think I first heard the Descendents when they released I Don't Want to Grow Up in...1986? Seems like such a long time ago. Probably because it was a long time ago.
