Meris Enzo Synth Pedal

@_Angelo_ I don't see how to set up the outputs to be bass clean to one side and synth to the other in the manual. Is this a global setting?

Is the clean signal completely unaffected?

Thanks for all the info ...
One more if you don’t mind :)

What would me the wiring on the Midi-Trs ?

I have this cable laying around , is that the proper connection ?

No this just using a cable won't work. Our Meris MIDI I/O (or similar compatible box by other manufacturers) has electrical isolation and signal conditioning, which our pedals need for reliable MIDI.

Got the Enzo today ... struggled at first ... got a little mad , thought it was the worst pedal ever ... then I started to understand the beast and things made sense , just before I had to go get my daughter from school , I got some sweeeeeeeet Synth sounds ....

Gonna mess with it a little more tomorrow and try to record some sounds !!!

What a rollercoaster ride! I am glad you are getting some sweet sounds out it. :D The Enzo is a lot like getting a new keyboard synth. The experience is not always plug and play, it is like getting an instrument that you learn how to play. To really dial in the sounds you need to get used to each Mode. It takes about a week to fully master. I'm here to help on the forums, email, and phone for anyone who is stuck. Some tips: Sustain is key to changing how the sounds react. I keep Sustain high for the Poly and Arp modes, but lower for the Mono and Dry modes. The fast triggered envelopes are just before noon on the "Filter Env" knob. There is a factory reset if you get lost. Also experiment with changing the envelope mode to Envelope Follower, for Mutron-type sounds. There is so much to explore!

Well I had a chance to try the Enzo at rehearsal last night and I will definitely be adding one to my synth table. It sounded great through guitar, and the bass. But, I think it’s going to really shine with the synth... where I’ve already got a Mercury and Polymoon in the signal chain.

So glad you were able to try one out!

Yes, on page four of the in-depth manual on the Enzo product page on our site. When selecting Trails On or Off, you can also select Split On or Off. With Split On, you basically get a free analog Y cable. Your dry signal is completely unaffected, just a direct analog connection.

Are you still thinking about getting an FI also? If you do, it would be really interesting to get your thoughts on how they compare.

Don’t think so ... I’m starting to get some interesting ideas and sound , don’t see a FI in my future ...

Unless this MIDI thing gets too complicated ... I don’t want to get another box , I wish someone will find a way to control the midi setting and send midi clock from my Mac without an extra box ...

Ok, thanks everyone for the suggestions! It is really helpful.

I made this clip which starts with square wave, medium resonance, and fast attack and decay. From there I mess with the knobs as I go (as well as eventually switch to sawtooth wave). And I also added a little bit from the other modes as well (Arp, Poly, Dry) just to give an idea how those react with bass as well.

Also, I bought the Akai Deep Impact when it was first released, and I absolutely love it. The more the merrier!

That fourth sound in is badass. How low can it go in terms of the notes and still getting good tracking?

Was going to record some sounds .... but I’m lost lol ...

Too many greats sounds ,then I don’t know how to go back to the sound I had, but I’m getting close to understanding it ... the key (i think) is to decide how you using it before you search for sounds , either you looking for Bass synth sounds or you use zero dry sound and imgine you’re a keyboard player .... the only thing I coulsn’t find useful (yet) is the arpeggio ..

I guess there’s no way around it, I will have to get a midi box to use the presets and expresssion.

This is a valid point. The purchase is really going to be more than $400 since it sounds like this pedal needs more control than it comes with.

The only workaround i see is finding one killer sound that i can use a lot and then just doing some slight knob tweaks to it throughout a set.

This is why i have been so adament about it being able to give a legit 80’s funk sound. Those tones are extremely solid foundations. The arpeggios and crazy effected sounds are not usable without some sort of preset pedal to select them with.

Don’t see myself choosing just one sound .... :)

Exactly. I would not either. I think i would have to have 3-4. But if i can just make some knob tweaks to get where i want, that is fine as well.
I would say 3-4 sound for poly, 3-4 for mono/sawtooth , 3-4 sound for mono/square maybe 3-4 for the dry ... a couple more for arpeggio as soon as I get the hang of it ... and then a few more for other sounds ..

Anyway ... you get the picture ;)

@_Angelo_ , is it possible to save a “morphing” preset as one of the 4 (with footswitch) or 16 (with MIDI I/O)? Or is morphing mode an entirely separate thing? I’d certainly find it useful to have several presets which morph when used with an expression pedal to add some variation and movement to the sounds.

I’m sure this will be possible with a SysEx librarian but I’d like to be able to quickly change between a few such presets without recourse to a computer.

Guys you've hit the nail on the head for me and just one of the reasons I continue to a big fan of the FI with its 99 presets available. I think for a gigging bassist the ability to store favorite presets for easy recall is really helpful, particularly on anything that has multi-fx abilities and/or is very sensitive to small changes in dial knob or slider positions.

Absolutely. Are you able to get the sounds in the videos i posted? Thats really what im looking to do. The examples of the enzo definitely show the potential there, so the pedal clearly has me interested.

To get you a quicker answer than I'm likely to be able to provide, I'd recommend posting your sound clips on the FI thread and then you'll have multiple (and more expert!) heads than me on the case :)

Forgive me if you’ve already done this but as a starting point, check out this video in which the player demonstrates the 99 stock presets of the FI:

Obviously it’s capable of many more sounds than these when one uses the editor.

Apologies for the slightly off-topic response.

Let's keep this thread focused on the Enzo. There is more than enough FI info in the other threads that can easily be found.

The Enzo's flexibility from the onboard controls, and its huge filter section are what appealed to me the most. MIDI implementation, even though you need an outside box like the Disaster area, Empress, Meris and probably Chase Bliss options is implemented well. A basic MIDI user can easily tune presets and morphs without the need for added software connections.

I was hesitant with the Mercury7 getting a MIDI box just for it, but I'm glad I did. Adding this box is a simple TRS cable. Playing music and being able to dial in a sound quickly without a computer is key for me, so having an interface like the Meris provides is perfect. Having a couple presets in memory is helpful as well, so its a good balance.

Sound programming in any synth pedal should take a bit of time and have a learning curve if it's a full featured system!
